This study is conducted by White and Kephart of High Computing Integrity a company that is tasked with producing good anti-virus as well as other computing resources. They offer leadership, well-informed news, and other technology related issues like data. The problem statement in this study conducted Kephart and White on Computer Virus is to identify the status of computer virus and as well as assess the level of this problem across the globe. The study was also aimed at informing on types of computer virus that continually offers a nuisance the computing world. The study analysis approach was also aiming at informing how much virus cost and as well as data presentations using various graphs.

Background of the Study

They were driven by the desire to understand the extent of computer virus matter across the globe. They also sought to predict how it would look in the future with the advancement of technology.

For this study, coming up with comprehensive and well-formulated anti-virus policies and mitigation measures requires two aspects to be looked into. Firstly, the study sought to assess how probably is one likely to face problem brought about by virus now and in the future. Secondly, what would be the costs of such kind of virus infections. The study sought to answer the above by breaking the research into various facets (Kephart & White, n.d.). The research generalizes the computer virus problems and how it can be measured in particular environments as well.

Result of the Research

The study offers some of the answers to the research questions highlighted in the previous section by presenting results obtained from surveying a large population of computer users over an extended period of several years (Kephart & White, n.d.). The study also uses comparison method to illustrate the relationship between the study results with those of the 1991Dataquest Survey with the emphasis being put on some of the setbacks that one should avoid in the process of collection as well as interpretation of data. The study indicates that the frequency by which a computer virus occurs is dependent on the number of computers it affects across the globe and the success of removing the virus. Therefore, any organization should have two focuses; to lower the infection rate from external factors and also to reduce the internal spread of the virus in case they get them.

Data

The comparison reveals that Certus in 1990, and 1991 surveyed an extensive data from large organizations. They did this by contacting the people responsible for data troubleshooting matters. The data collected from the population is assumed to be accurate since the population is international, but a primary bias is the fact that it is more inclined towards the U.S. A total of 500 companies were used, and these companies displayed regular use of anti-virus, focused responsive mechanism for incidents, user education as well as active central reporting framework (Kephart & White, n.d.).

Opinion about the Study

This study is a sophisticated one that requires highly developed research tool to help achieve the goals without significant error margins. This is where the course on computer statistics comes in to ease the work for better results. The research also lacks proper population representation since the sample dealt with is large population and also applied the comparison method, and this is not necessarily reflective of the entire globe. They also draw general conclusions about the problem of a computer virus in the world and this study was mostly inclined towards the U.S.
