One of the most significant technologies ever adopted by health organizations has to be the electronic health records which is computerized way of storing information. This is more efficient way of information collection and storage as compared to previously used manual system of storage. The electronic health records is a huge database that comprises of all the organizations data collected from different sources within the organization integrated so it can convey information that is consistent. This record keeping way always improves the performance of any health organization that has adopted it. Performance being one of the key elements that is used by The Joint Commission in the accreditation process as which provides information of how services are offered and how effective are they to the users of the services. Another element that is mostly used in the accreditation process are the set objectives, day to day activities and the set expectations in terms of the performance of the organization. The accreditation always mainly depends on the data about the organization in the electronic health records since its an aggregated databases and other sources like the public.

Performance for a health care organization is improved significantly if all the departments can work towards one goal of the entire organization. This is in regards to the data required and information provided by the departments to ensure efficient decision making by the administration and all concerned parties (Gillette, 2006). Having a track of all the slight changes from financial changes to changes in services provide that can affect the organization both directly or indirectly in the long term and short basis can be necessary for a sustainable health care facility. The plan of action of action needed to rectify any slight change or bring out much bigger positive result can be extracted and the ways of implementation form the automated system. This is reached as the organization is automatically able to predict financial expenditure and future state of the company based on the analyzed information. This methodology also enables the organization to always do its activities and operations in compliance with standards for the annual review component of The Joint Commission accreditation process. The quality of care to the patients is also included in the components that are used in the accreditation process which can be noticed easily by surveyors when all the data needed in automated.

The use of electronic health records also has its downside in the maintenance of the data as an efficient one needs to enable automatic information sharing in the whole organization. The data in the electronic health records is normally collected from different sources, then combined for analysis then information disseminated to whole organization. The information is filtered based on the specific on the user categories for easier retrieval and usage (Wager, Lee, & Glaser, 2009). From this we deduce this is a very complex procedure that is time consuming and also incur a lot of cost on the side of the organization.

The accreditation is a process that is normally repeated in just to make sure all the standard are still maintained and performance is getting better. The follow up processes depend entirely on the data that is collected about the organization and how the patients find them efficient when services are offered to them. The automated system facilitate timely offering of services that are accurate for any decision making process. It will give room for further improvements in all areas of the organization to do the daily operations in a quality manner that is expected by the patients. Since the accreditation is also patient-centered the benefits should not only be focused on the organization side but also be experienced from patients perspective. The establishment of such system that improve health care chances of being accredited involves an organized plan of steps for it to achieve better output. The problems that are existing should be identified especially with the data in case of accreditation requirements process. This should enable minimal problems or strain on how the organization operates on normal basis once the system is adopted and it should fit in well. All the parties that will be using it will need to have clue of the system works through conducting a training to them. It might involve conversion or transfer of information which is a very technical process in maintaining consistency and information contained in the data some problems might arise with continuous usage of the automated system so its always recommended the organization be prepared for such mishaps and be ready to handle them efficiently. The accreditation also requires the organization formulate policies that will help the standards to be maintained.
