Griffiths, (2010) defined Online betting as the action of placing something of high value or money in an occurrence under uncertainty but expecting to win more of what was on a bet. It relies more on chance and the price that accompanies the winner. It is a system of paying to play and expect to win more money or prize. People have benefited from online betting in many years because it gives a chance for an individual to try their luck.

Issues surrounding the government allowing the two lottery operators to offer online betting

A controversy on whether the exercise is legal or illegal has resulted to government interference. In the US for example, there is no law that regulates gambling. However, religious institutions are against it as it is associated with social crimes. In the context of Singapore, pools and turf clubs are main online betting platforms and has caused a controversy between the religious and government on whether to legalize it or not. The government is basing its step to legalize as beneficial because it enables people to get money upon placing a bet. The religious institution on the other hand base on crimes that will arise from legalizing the online money making activity (Orford, 2010).

Allowing the two operators to conduct online gambling has its issues revolving around ethics, social and moral context. On the ethical basis; it is addictive to the participant; this results in the inability to participate in other activities that could help build one's knowledge and experience. The fact that it can be done at an individuals comfort encourages laziness, and it can lead to obesity-related diseases simply because one gets to eat and gamble only. It is the expectation of any society to raise the young generation to uphold good morals in their growth experience, how will the young find money to place these bets if not stealing or committing illegal crimes to get enough money? It is a concern to the society in the sense that online gambling will promote more social crimes which are against the expectation of morally upright society. Education should be emphasized as it is essential for gaining knowledge and being able to grow with experience. Online betting does not require any educational background, therefore encouraging school drop out for an individual who is ambitious in making money without knowledge. In Britain for example, gambling is considered as an activity that affects a persons religion in the sense that it draws one away from God (Siyuan, 2011).

Arguments for upholding the governments decision

Upholding governments decision to allow online betting by two operators is a step towards regulating the business. Taking a look at the control of participants is important because it restricts who get to be involved in the activity. People who are of age 21 years and above are allowed to participate; this will encourage more emphasis on education especially in primary and secondary

According to Huiwen,(2016), failure to regulate online gambling will result to cartels that manipulate people for their benefits, and this is a limitation to those who place more money on bets. You find that individuals sell their assets so that they can get money to gamble. Rendering it legal will, therefore, protect participants from malicious cartels. However, the government should impose high expense in obtaining a license to operate the business; this will further prevent entry of other interested parties as well

Developing new sites for gambling has become rampant especially in other countries; Singapore decision to restrict it to only two clubs will prevent multiple sites that will be rather confusing among gamblers. The sites could also result to competition which will weaken the strength of these clubs, regarding the amount of money made and the number of interested people. Any money making activity attracts global interest which renders it an international online business. Government restriction will provide terms and conditions that will regulate the flow of business.it will also prevent the business from growing as it is only restricted to two clubs (Abdullah, 2016).

The fact that families are allowed to restrict their loved ones in participating is important because one cannot bet without approval from a family member. This will restrict the young which will further prevent social aspects like dropping out of school. Concentrating on other factors that will improve ones social life will be upon family approval.

When people visit the internet, there are many sites that they aim for, it is, therefore, an advantage to make money by spending free time to gamble as compared to using the same time to search for explicit content in various sites. This is for those young adults who are filled with curiosity; therefore online betting is a way of creating a distraction from other influential sites that will damage the moral character.

Arguments against upholding the governments decision

On the other hand banning gambling is beneficial especially to the society. The knowledge on gambling exposes one to debts because of the need to have money so as to generate more. In this type of business, one cannot bet without having enough money. For the startups, they will be addicted gradually, and this will result to the extent of borrowing or stealing so as to have something use in betting. When it comes to such a situation, there will be social crimes, the young for example will be tempted to steal or obtain one illegally so as to participate. Take for example the case of a poor person with greed for money; it goes without saying that committing crimes through stealing will be the only option to get money

Arthur et al (2008) emphasized that education is essential to the young as it is the basis for gaining knowledge on how to adjust towards growth and life. Getting rich through betting is a short cut; Take for example a young adult who is in college and is lucky enough to win the lottery, there is high chance that the individual will tend to lose focus on education and concentrate on making more money. Banning online betting will, therefore, encourage young people to work hard towards getting money that does not result from placing bets and relying on chances.

Singapore is a country that is full of resources that can be used to generate money. Gambling is another illegal employment as it encourages youths to become lazy through addiction. A country needs young intellectual individuals who have the energy to work in various institutions and participate towards the achievement of economic goals (Winslow, Cheok, & Subramaniam, 2015). When the government bans lottery business, it motivates youth to use their skills and knowledge to work and create self-employment. Time and energy are important resources that should be used to enhance achievement of life goals, channeling all these resources to betting is a betrayal to education systems and natural resources found in every country, therefore, online gambling should be banned.
