From his personal journal, you can tell that William Bryd was a much-disciplined person. He lived a life full of activities that he was not under any obligation to fulfill but his personal will and motivation. Although waking up at seven oclock does not quite make you a hardworking person, the fact that he did not have a deadline to meet or an office to sign in to, makes him disciplined. In the contemporary world, most people wake up at 7 oclock or even earlier because they do not want to risk being late for work because of the severe repercussions attached to it. Other than that, were it not for the job or the boss, in particular, they would prefer to wake at midday and spend the rest of the day slacking on a couch in sweatpants.

Secondly, Bryd values the human company and treasures his friends and the people in his life. This is evident in the way he makes a point of visiting and spending at least a part of his day with them. On the first day of his journal, he spent his evening with Mrs. BRN and shared the details of his affair with Miss Smith. Later that night, he visited Lady Guises until 10 oclock before proceeding to the Spanish Ambassador where he left at midnight going home. Humans are social beings and no man is an island, so an old saying goes. Bryd knows this only too well and does not miss on a moment to spend with the people in his life. As compared to the present day man, Bryds lifestyle is way better. People nowadays would rather spend time on the internet and social media. Current technology is characterized with media overstimulation. The internet has become a primary need; thanks to the new technology. Did you know that an average person spends around four years of their life looking down on their cellphone? Worse still, with the current trends and modes of communication, do you know that this number is bound to go way up in the next few years? It is ironic how these touch screens are slowly making us lose contact with one another. Technology has made us so separate and selfish than ever before to the point of worrying.

Thirdly, Bryd is a spiritual person. He has a deep sense of religion and starts his days with a Bible reading and occasionally ends with it too. I woke up about 7 oclock and read a chapter in Hebrew and three chapters in Greek. I said my prayers, and had boiled milk, on day 3 of his journal. He takes prayers seriously and cannot retire to bed without whispering a word to God. He puts God in the center of everything and has Him to thank for the favors and good times he is accorded. The modern day man is nothing like Bryd. Religion is a luxury that people nowadays have no time for. People are so focused on making money that they have started idolizing and worshipping it. Let alone saving a few hours daily to connect with God, people dont even respect the Sabbath day anymore. To them, it is just another working day. They are ungrateful, and this can be attributed to the modern day world that is punctuated with ungodly ways that drift man farther and farther away from the Almighty.
