The National Basketball Association, NBA and its governing body is facing five major challenges as follows. The first challenge is the NBAs place in the Olympics as the leagues idea is to increase revenues by withdrawing NBA players from the summer Olympics to create a league-owned tournament. The NBA under the new leadership of Adam Silver is under pressure to make this decision but is opposed by almost every US Olympian. Another challenge is the Uniform ADS as two estimates suggested the annual revenue at either one hundred or one hundred and sixty million dollars for a league that lost three hundred million dollars in the past one year. Another challenge is the competitive balance between small and big markets as the new CBA that penalizes teams with a higher tax does not give Adam Silver the advantage. The NBA is also faced with tanking where teams with the worst record are given most chance during draft in contrary to fair competition. Finally Lockout Aversion is still a major challenge with the outdated arenas.
The NBA sport is actually growing and this can be seen at certain levels like the rise of NBA academies. These NBA academies offer training facilities to nature and discover new talents in the sport. The academies provide a wide range of footages of player to inspire young talents into the sport. Commissioner Adam Silver is known for his continuous advocate for the NBA to be a global sport which is a justification that the sport is growing and has found its way into various nations around the globe. The academies appear to be the facilitators of new talents in the NBA sports since they are committed to discovering new talents. A commitment to building and maintenance of academies would change the sports dynamic for example, Basketball without Boundary, a program known for the out rich mission to the rest of the world. The academies mainly focus on the ages ranging from fourteen to eighteen years and at college levels.
NBA has emerged as one of the biggest sports in the world drawing millions of fans from across the globe with each fan choosing a team to associate with. Every NBA team has managed to build a fan base with loyal fans. Fans engagement in a team is determined through home and away attendance, home ticket price and home capacity; a team with a strong fan base would require a large stadium capacity to fit its fans. There are two types of fans that is a band wagon fan base who only follows the best performing team and die-hard fans who stand with their teams through good and bad times. However, certain aspects like a teams background determine the fan base for a team
The fan base main threats are: It is a disadvantage for a team with a weak fan base since rowdy fans give the home team home court advantage. The home court advantage makes it difficult for the away team to win. The fan base also help different teams to generate fund to finance various teams activities, it is achieved through gate collections and the sale of home tickets. The fan base is a show solidarity with the team and is the power that pushes most teams to win since the player are motivated by fans as they play. However, on the flip side the fan base can become a problem when it comes to chaos that occur during games since a big fan base can be destructive and dangerous to the opponents as well.Bibliography
