Presently there are so many types of networks in use such as WAN, MAN, LAN and many others. In that regard, it might be difficult for an individual to understand how all of them work but after going through this topic, some of you will understand their functions. Therefore, this topic will entirely cover the three standard networks in use and the one that is usually employed in offices. In connection to that, there are various types of systems and each is characterized by its purpose or size. In that regard, the size of the system is expressed using the number of computers connected to it or the occupied geographic area. In such terms, WAN occupies a large area of the entire world or the country. In that case, It is a suitable type of network as it can combine multiples like MANs or LANs (Kim & Feamster, 2013). MAN consists a network that is that is occupying across the entire small region, college campus, or city. Unlike the LAN which is limited to a single set or building a MAN is larger. MAN network can cover several miles of the area depending on the configurations. On the other hand, to form a bigger system, a MAN can be used to connect many LANs to achieve that mission. When such type of a system has been designed to serve a particular area like a college campus, it is called CAN (Campus area network).

LAN or local area network it consists of a computer system of a single site like an individuals building. In sharing resources like printers and data storage, a LAN is very useful in that. LANs can be built by the hardware which is not such inexpensive such as Ethernet cables, network adapters, and hubs. The largest LAN can connect a thousand computers whereas the smaller one accommodates only two (Swetina, Jacobs, Ennesser, & Song, 2014).In most cases, ALAN relies on wired connections in terms, of increasing security or speed. However, wireless connections may be part of a LAN. The defined characteristics of LANs include relatively low cost and high speed. In a single site where individuals want to share resources among themselves and not with the outside world, a LAN can be used. In that case, a LAN it works better when it is single which does not allow any information to be shared with the outside world. For the people who are working in the same office when it comes to printing and has access to a file is very simple as printing can be done one or using more central printers (Forman, 2014). By the utilization of a LAN, tasks become very easy for every individual working in that office without involving outsiders. On the other hand, there is WLAN meaning that the entire ALAN is wireless. For instance, when comparing those three networks, it is realized that WAN is the best to be used in offices as it is made of two or more networks. In that regard, as WAN has other networks interconnected it is easy for the computers and users in one location to communicate with the other. WAN is known to be best in providing solutions to the to the organizations and companies that are who are operating from a distant area to communicate with the other location to manage and share an intermediate data. Therefore, those are the three standard networks that are in use today.
