Summary of Idea

In collaboration with NextGen Technologies, Avant-Garde Eyewear has received a patent for new glasses, the iEye that can assess human emotions. A keynote is that the glasses direct attention towards performance in both directions- measuring the emotional position of the person wearing them, and the emotional state of the individuals that the wearer can see (Nelson 2013). Under the patent, the glasses occur as optical devices with unique capabilities. These glasses can execute facial coding, and deliver more services than ever expected from a single frame. From their design, they can detect and decode human posture and communication, in addition to an attached microphone, which gathers and evaluates the data in the audio (Alibaba 2019; Etsy 2019). Further, these glasses are designed to offer immediate feedback to the individuals wearing them.

From the patent states, the Avant-Garde glasses address the idea that emotions play a significant role in directing human lives and psychological and social attitudes and behavior. In this view, human beings communicate their emotional state consistently through different verbal and non-verbal manners (Gray 2015). Such expressions would include smiles and frowns, laughter and cries, and minor differences in rhythm and speech.

Usually, people are effective communicators, although the communication process entails more than just the language spoken. Additionally, individuals pick various cues from the behavior of others, in particular from their faces (Nelson 2013). For example, psychologists have determined that there exist at least six common facial expressions. On this note, humans express a lot when their faces involuntarily transition in temperature or color such as when sweating.

While most of the involuntary facial signals become instrumental for communicating individual emotions to others, they can also be understated. In this regard, it becomes easy to misinterpret them or even disregard them completely (Nelson 2013). And you will all agree with me that such situations are okay at times, especially when humans need to portray an image of being reserved, are hiding something, or attempt to keep a huge secret. On the other hand, the facial signals may put us into a situation of conflict, all depending on the level of being able to hide them relative to others.

Purpose of Project

At some point, it becomes common to find yourself communicating to a group of marketing interns, prospective customers, or the Board of Directors, and they are just staring at you like they have no idea of what you are talking about (Gray 2015). Given the situation, the message delivered may not be reaching its end. Here, the individual speaker is left wondering whether the dialogue bore its intended fruits. To address such situations, the Avant-Garde iEye has been developed to assist in the automatic detection of the surrounding human emotions. In a strong partnership with NextGen Technologies, the new eyewear uses new technology with the ability to interpret the feelings of people near the wearer.

According to the patent, the iEye glasses seek to enhance the combined assessment of gesture, posture, facial cues, speech, expressions, and words. For each, the new technology will use the collected information to make comparisons to an existing database that allows for the evaluation of the emotional substance. Initially, the idea rested on providing an efficient tool for marketers, where the glasses could quickly assess responses from consumers concerning advertisements, service offerings and other people (Gray 2015). The person wearing the glasses could be mobile and able to change direction, follow crowds, and adapt to new settings.

Given the product features, the iEye glasses become uniquely tinted to improve an individual's color vision and allow them to more accurately interpret the variations in oxygenation and hemoglobin features of another individual's face (Nelson 2013; Buffet nd). The glasses offer a particular way of reading peoples' emotions, making a great deal of change for those interested in gathering essential data. For an excellent interpreter, the data collected would serve as an invaluable tool.

Apart from the marketing scene, the iEye glasses also show potential applications in lie detection fields to assist law enforcement officers during interrogations with suspects. Additionally, they could assist counselors to determine the emotional states of their patients. For nurses, the tool could help identify veins and bruise as wearers can see blood under the skin through the iEye glasses (Nelson 2013). However, with each application comes to its challenges. For example, ethical and legal implications could arise with the issue of violating the privacy and other rights of individuals. Given appeal, the iEye glasses also feature a stylish appearance and may be highly effective for social purposes, such as a date.

Execution Plan

The technology uses cameras mounted on the nose bridge to detect facial signals, gestures, posture, and direction of the eye, to ensure the glasses are in perfect working condition. Further, an attached microphone would examine delicate variations in such features as the volume of an individual's voice (Gray 2015). Given databases from NextGen Technologies, the gathered information applies for comparisons. With detailed graphics, the wearer could identify the emotional state of the other persons (Buffet nd). From the patent, the new eyewear tool passes a test on a crowd of people, and the workplace during an organized staff meeting.

In this view, the iEye encompasses a variety of scans and sensors to recognize emotional states in individuals by comparing the detected sensor input against the database of human expressions, speech, and posture during interactions (Gray 2015). In the end, the data collector, in this case, the wearer of glasses, receives feedback following the interpretation of the input.
