Introduction
It no longer secret or breaking news that climate change is having negative effects in the universe. Among the effects that climatic change is having is the issue of its influence on mental health. There is emerging evidence that there is a negative relationship between climatic change and mental health. When we talk about the effects of climate change and mental health we are looking at many issues in perspective. We have to look at the direct impact that climate change is a having on mental health implications. Here we have to look at the negative effects of adverse weather conditions. This means that climate change has brought in more effects to mental health. According to recent studies extreme weather conditions always have direct impacts on mental health (McMichael, et al. 2006). Secondly, we have far-reaching impacts both socially, economically, environmentally and culturally on the issue of mental health. Socially we look at the evidence that a lot of the impacts of climate change are usually felt by the lower people in the communities or the disadvantaged populations. The vulnerable communities are the ones that experience these disturbances both economically and environmentally in terms of climate change. The extreme weather conditions always have a psychological effects and this can bring mental issues. The displacements as well as disruptions have an impact on the mental health. The adverse weather conditions usually bring about losses and this breeds anxiety. When the disasters hit all over sudden the people will always be caught unaware and this is what now affects the mental health.
The vulnerable communities are experiencing disruptions to their social; economic and environmental aspects due to climate change. It creates emotional distress and anxiety something that contributes to the mental health states. There must be policies that can make this issue of climate change to be addressed and solved (Berry, et al. 2010). The issue is not a surprise to me as the issue of climate change has always been discussed in many areas. The information is something that has always been a subject of discussion and looking at the psycho-social factors, and then we know that mental health will be affected so much by the sudden destructions, displacement, loss brought by the adverse weather conditions. The conditions will bring in anxiety to people and the people who are disadvantaged bear the brunt of it. The communities that directly depend on the environment are the most affected. It affects the social aspect of the societies. One thing that we should all be aware of is that mental health does not only mean mental illness, but it looks at the emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of the individual. All these must be taken care of to make sure that mental health is well catered for in all aspects.
