The code is based on ethical considerations that are relevant to professionalism in the supervision process as well as counselors in training. It essential that the code of ethics is observed to enable effective association and clarification for the current and potential members for the ACA group as well as those served by the trainees. The nature of the code of ethics held by the supervisors and trainees should be common as it is designed to help members in constructing a course plan through proper counseling services (Kaplan et al. 2017). The clip identifies some a type of a supervisor who is irresponsible and does not observe ethical codes as expected by the student and in ACA guides. The major objective of the American Counseling Association (ACA) is to provide a quality of good livelihood in society through the development of professional and responsible counselors, improving the profession of counseling. This is achieved by using professional practices of supervision and counseling to respect and promote human diversity and dignity. Based on the clip, the supervisor fails to observe the guidelines of ACA, she does not have a plan for the session, and as a result, she loses attention for her student in training. The counselor supervisors and trainers are required to aspire and foster a respectful and meaningful professional relationship to promote appropriate learning process for the students in training. They should have pedagogical and theoretical foundations through their work. However, the supervisor in the clip does not have any of these values in her work (Ling, & Hauck, 2017).
ACA code of ethics expects a supervisor to ensure that client welfare observed; it is known as a core obligation to supervisors who monitor the progress of the students or supervisees (Senter et al. 2018). Through proper monitoring of the supervisees, the counseling supervisor can monitor the clit's welfare. The development and the performance of the supervisee in the field are important in ensuring the process is implemented. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to understand and stick to the ACA code of ethics. The clip depicts the type of supervisor who is not a concern about client welfare issues. Besides, the scriptures explain the need for ethics in every activity. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that all scripture is God's words and they are important for teaching, to proof, correct and train in good virtue; a human must be competent and well prepared for every duty (Birrell, & Bruns, 2016).
Furthermore, the ACA code of ethics prohibits friends and family issues in the course counseling or supervision process. In the clip, the supervisor receives phone calls that are not relevant to the course of work. Supervisor a are expected to remain objective at work and avoid engaging in extra activities which may hinder the provision of quality service to the students or supervisees (Rani et al. 2017). In addition, emergencies and absence during the supervisory activities are prohibited, supervisors should establish procedures and communicate to the student or supervisees properly in case an absent. Also, teaching ethics are part of the essential code of ethics; the counseling supervisor is expected to ensure that the supervisees or students are aware of their responsibilities and capable of handling different cases in the field (Karaman et al. 2018). The counselor supervisor is responsible for impacting students with the required professional knowledge to deliver quality services.
Conclusion
Code of ethics in the American Counseling Association is acting as an essential instrument in delivering quality and professional services in the society. A relationship that is based on professional virtue contributes to the development of better livelihood. Counselors should be aware of their responsibilities and ensure that they observe the code of ethics stipulated by ACA. The student in the clip experiences rough time while engaging with the bad supervisor as a result of a violation of the code of ethics. She involves personal activities in the course of duty, and this contributes to the loss of attention and misunderstanding.
