Introduction

It has been a norm for health officers to offer professional advice that encourages people to alter certain behaviors in order to prevent diseases. The focus is on managing the risk factors and what stimulates the desire for change among the population is the mania of untimely death. The pinpointing of unhealthy lifestyles and the subsequent encouragement to individuals who embrace healthy lifestyles through gifts often go a long way in eliminating some of these diseases. This approach to health promotion is embedded in the biomedical model. It is an important aspect of nursing as it advocates for a disease-free society through the transformation of the healthcare systems across the globe (Zamanzadeh, Jasemi, Valizadeh, Keogh, & Taleghani, 2015) It seeks ways in which communities can be maintained as healthy as possible while also recovering optimal health and quality of life of individuals in the society. It is important to give health promotion a holistic approach as it encompasses both mental and spiritual aspects of life.

Currently, the execution of health education does not bring together the dynamism and the multidimensional nature of health as dictated in the profession. There is a need to form a paradigm shift in education such that holistic health education is provided in schools at a young age. The objective of holistic education is to raise awareness and share the knowledge that will guarantee a healthier, happier and fulfilling life (Bonell, Humphrey, Fletcher, Moore, & Anderson, 2014). Currently, there are a lot of people who are suffering from cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Most people don't believe it can happen to them until it's too late. A statistic from Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows an increase in the number of individuals developing chronic diseases. There is a need to consider all the five aspects of health that helps an individual to grow into the person they want. They include; physical health, mental health, moral spiritual health, social health and emotional health (Nandan & Scott, 2014). Cancer is a lifestyle disease that has affected a vast majority in the world can be eliminated through a holistic approach by adhering to the plan; preparation week where instructions and guidelines are provided. The first phase is followed by the holistic reset phase where there is the removal of harmful lifestyle practices and replacement with safer lifestyle and lastly, there is the third phase involves the systemic reintroduction of food groups while studying the body response as recommendations on the foods to be avoided is given. According to (Forbes & Watt, 2015) adherence to the program by a vast majority creates a tremendous health improvement as the number of cancer cases reported reduces with time. In conclusion, the introduction of a holistic health promotion program should be introduced in learning institutions are the early stages of the educational life of a student. This would mean that the population grows well aware of the lifestyles they ought to encourage amongst themselves leading to a healthy population.
