Indeed, in "The Player (1992)," Robert Altman plays the role of director and does it well as is reflected in the final product. So good was the production that his direction received three nominations in the 65th Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It won two Golden Globes Awards for Best Motion Picture Comedy and Best Actor. The film had a great cast that had the who-is-who in Hollywood. It is important to note that great acting and casting is a presentation of the direction of the director and the great reception considering that the movie was an adaptation of a previous novel with the same title shows that it was to some extent a mirror image of the novel (Philips 123).

However, the job of a script analyst is important although short budget films usually do not have such roles as they go beyond the set budget. At times, the director is also the script analyst as he/she wants the movie to reflect his/her vision (Philips 342). It does not require college degree although some formal education in television and film production is helpful. The role also needs expertise and experience to be able to give out material that pleases the production department. The position is usually outsourced, and payment is made as per the agreement with most getting paid on an hourly basis of approximately $30 per hour. A script analyst can move on to be a screenwriter depending on his/her English acumen (Philips, 411).
