Introduction

I applied for the internship position to gain knowledge and experience on how to carry out the advertising coordinator position in the work market. I needed to know how to initiate the best practices in advertising coordination duties and gain expertise in updating customer databases. I wanted to get the know-how of ensuring optimum customer satisfaction. The internship experience is essential and useful to my future work life since it would give me more insight on the understanding the various roles and functions of an advertising coordinator and all the related roles in the advertising department or agency. I was excited to gain know-how on developing a campaign strategy and gain experience and expertise of creating a competitive advertising strategy that will lead to the creation of a strong brand or lead the company to be a top leader in the market. To begin the internship at Commercial Real Estate, my supervisor led me through creating my promises and goals. My goals encompassed achieving the needed skills of team working and communicating. Also, I made the daily goals according to the allocated daily work. For instance, I made the goal of gaining 10 customers each day on the social media platform. My weekly goals were holding and conducting meetings with my supervisor weekly. I am more concerned about gaining experience and insight on the effectiveness of advertising campaigns and strategies, and the process of suggesting and implementing more improvements to attain a wide reach of the campaign. I do not anticipate any challenges during the internship since at the moment am only working as an intern and am not multitasking the internship with academies or other jobs. Also, the working hours are 6 hours which make me balance my work and lifestyle life.

In accordance with the Ashford and Black socialization and proactive theory, as a newcomer to the organization, I had to get involved in the set of practice activities to adapt the work environment and gain control over the workplace settings (Floyd & Hammers, 2001). The proactive activities made me familiarize and get to know and communicate with the other staff members. The proactive activities like helping my supervisor in his roles have helped me in understanding how functions are done and have helped me in becoming a fully adjusted insider. I have been networking with the staff members and seeking guidance on functions that I have assigned to carry out on my own. For example, I have been able to create ads on my own. The socialization process has created a free workplace environment why I can communicate my challenges, ideas, and hold meetings with my internship supervisor.

My site supervisor is friendly and involving, an aspect that makes me ask for clarification without fear and that makes me gain much experience through practically performing some duties. Unlike other leadership styles, my supervisor is always present in the workplace and is supportive enough to ensure I gain much experience. My relationship with the supervisor is a supportive supervisor-employee relationship that is not governed by the segregation of top managers and lower employees.

Roles and Functions During the Internship

As an advertising coordinator intern at Commercial Real Estate Office, I had the role of creating and delivering of the advertising company products through the company's channels of advertising which were through social media, broadcasting, and print media. The advertising department had the role of coordinating all the advertising activities, coordinating all the sales and marketing teams to widen the market and gain more customers. I committed most of my time work time, about three hours daily, in analyzing the customer requirements, establishing competitive positioning, and coordinating all the resources required in the marketing project development. I enjoyed coordinating and interacting with creative personnel in creating advertisement campaigns and meeting the required project deadlines since the role was involving and allowing me to socialize more with other staff members. I did not enjoy working with both the internal and external resources to attain that timely delivery of the marketing projects since it involved so much work. As advertising coordinator intern, the most meaningful role was I was planning, creating, and executing advertising campaigns and projects to market the company's services and products portfolio to the identified and target markets on behalf of organizations or the client marketing strategy. I found it meaningful since it is relevant to what most advertising agency do. The less meaningful roles were participating in non-adverting roles such as being assigned duties like data entry roles since some staff members felt that I was not fully conversant with advertising coordination role.

I would like to makes changes to the level of participation in the meetings. Sometimes, I was required to attend the client meetings to be conversant with what is discussed during the meetings and how the meetings are conducted but did not contribute since I felt that my ideas cannot be strong enough to be implemented by the company. I was also required to participate in the creative team meetings to aid in the development of advertising projects. Therefore, I have the strategy of getting more involved in the methods and believe that am capable of offering sound ideas like other staff members.

How the Internship Relates to Academic Coursework

The internship roles and concepts at the workplace are directly related to the academic class projects and courses. The knowledge and concepts learned in relevant to the functions in the workplace. I learnt how to manage budgets and timelines to liaise with creative agencies and evaluation of campaigns. I did not expect that the advertising coordinator had the responsibility of carrying out administrative tasks like recording revenues and expenses. I thought that was the role of the administrative task was for another department distinct from the advertising department. Some of the administrative roles that were required to perform, are resource allocation and presenting the records to the finance and administration department. The internship made me realize the essence of keeping the desired actions and how the activities of the advertising department are essential in contributing to the achievement of the organizational goals.

The previous class courses equipped with sufficient knowledge on the job positioning. The major concepts of the responsibilities of an advertising coordinator were as outlined in the class work curriculum. In class, I learned that major roles of on advertising coordinator were client acquisition through emails and phone calls, and serving which entails searching and acquiring new clients. This was relevant to what we were doing as we were required to analyze the client requirements and develop the most appropriate advertising channels as learned in class, the advertising manager had the responsibility of managing the clients and projects database. In my academic study, I learned that the advertising coordinator was responsible for conducting extensive media research and management of the target market and clients to determine the best media and strategy that will be more feasible, effective, mad cost effective. This role turned out to be among the major activities that were on our weekly work schedules. From the class knowledge, I learned that the advertising coordinator has the responsibility of leading the marketing team. I was naive during the first weeks since I did not understand how I can act as the leader of the marketing team. However, after attending some regular meetings with the marketing team, I learned how I can plan and conduct successful meetings to keep track of the marketing activities and its results. However, the previous courses did not prepare me on how to use some software on the creation of ads.

I have remained empowered and engaged by building stronger relationships with the clients and creating ads with the creative team. We had to work with television, internet, and print media to facilitate the placement of ads and how to track their effectiveness. I have been proactive in my internship by researching for suitable channels and helping in the determination of the most feasible and cost-effective channels was an interesting job. I enjoyed conducting the extensive research, doing analysis adverting channels, and coming up with the most appropriate adverting medium for the company. This role gave me insight on how to choose the best and most separate adverting medium that will ensure the attainment of a vast market in the targeted locations. Moreover, I have proactively conducted an analysis of determining the performance of the advertising strategies and mediums that the advertising department had chosen for implementation. My supervisor and I had to determine why the strategies are performing in the market if the sales obtained reflect the adverting investment, and if the poorly performing advertising strategies should be replaced with better and more performing adverting strategies. Further, I proactively participated in checking whether the advertisement as properly printed or broadcasted as required. The advertising coordinator also has the role of searching for prospective clients and working in coordination with the sales team. As the adverting coordinators, we also had the responsibility of presenting the advertising goals and the strategies to the prospective and existing clients according to their service or products needs and depending on the vastness of the market

By being confident and demonstrating my interpersonal skills, I have been able to manage the first impression that I created the first time I joined the company. I always ensure that I manage my time effectively by utilizing my daily goals and work allocations. One thing that I did out of my duties was creating a new strategy of advertising in social media such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. They had social media platforms but were not active. The advertising department did not use social media platforms to seize the vast market opportunity in the company. Therefore, I lead the staff members on creating active profiles. This excited the supervisor and the staff members who appreciated greatly contribution. I realized that although the advertising coordinator has to work closely with the marketing and creative team to create effective advertising and promotional strategies, they were not using up to date advertising strategies and technologies. I implemented the use of Search Engine Optimization to gain more customers traffic on our website.

I also intend to introduce a strategy of getting clients to feedback to get to know how the company can improve the quality of products and services. This is because I noticed that the advertising staff members concentrate more on advertising and not getting feedback on how they can improve the services to offer more customer satisfaction. I also instead to encourage the use of clear and honest advertising schemes since some ads were focused on luring to get more customers other than clearly clarifying to the clients all the associated costs, challenges, and benefits.

How the Internship Affects Future Career Planning

The internship was suitable for future career planning since it gave me some experience which is a requirement in the work field.
