Introduction
I am addressing these details to you, to convey the essence of incorporating the components of Emotional Intelligence into the Organizational Leadership. Emotional Intelligence refers to the gradual process of realizing and regulating our own emotions, and for those, we relate with. The major components to be outlined are self-awareness, motivation, self-guidance, empathy, and social skills. These components have been proven to ignite a substandard relationship within the organization. They would instill discipline, transparency and civilized traits in individuals.
To begin, I would elaborate on the vital impact of self-awareness. Self-awareness is a state whereby, a goal-oriented individual is absolute of what is emotions dictate, precisely being certain of the personal feelings and the escapades that encompass them. It can further be attributed to understanding your capabilities and gauge yourself within an advanced margin. For instance, in my case, I can vividly confess I bear a weak status of self-awareness. There was one time I never understood a topic in mathematics, and since I had this fear of asking questions in class, the lesson would proceed, and while others were participating by asking and debating about the answers, I was just there sinking in a dilemma, afraid of being the laughing stock of the day. When the examination day came through, it was tormenting; simply because the entire exam paper had covered that particular topic that I shied from enquiring. Honestly, I failed rhetorically; which was contrary to my friend Evan's situation. Evans was a very talkative fellow, but active in class. He tended to debate uncontrollably, and most times he would challenge the teacher until they settled at a definite answer. He would inquire about anything during lessons, and that conferred him stronger grades in the class. What if I had enquired about that unfamiliar topic, wouldn't I have been in the same situation as Evans.
Another imperative component is motivation. This aspect depicts the process of always striving hard towards a mutual goal, irrespective of the circumstances besieging the process. No matter the magnitude of the misfortune, one should always be ready to respond positively to any form of setback encountered. There was this time, we were preparing for the first annual trip of the inter-school science symposium, and before that trip, and everyone was initially required to present their science project in class for assessment. Hence, you would only qualify for the trip if your primary presentation matches the formulated pass mark. I was very nervous because if you manage to qualify for this first symposium of the year, it would go down in the school history and feted as school science champion. Together with my project partner Michael, we worked indefatigably on that project; we used all sources of informative research articles we could think of. It took us one week to orchestrate the masterpiece. Thus we were fully sure, we wouldn't miss the chance. When the day of class presentation approached, we exuded the project as we had rehearsed. All the present teams did their best but come the next day, when the class teacher announced the results, we never even managed to be in the top five. It was so frustrating, Michael and I were depressed but, we had to stay strong and deeply revisit the project; because we knew there would be other science symposiums to look forward to. Believe you me, when the next symposium approached, despite it not being as fancy as the first one, we did everything to ensure to be part of it. The day of the class presentation came, we presented the project, the results were announced, and the end justified the means; implying, we were in! The setback didn't deter our fighting spirit, but rather it motivated us to keep working hard.
Thirdly, I would like to enlighten on Self-guidance. This component of emotional intelligence involves, being able to control your emotion, especially when being stressed; instead of breaking down, one should manage the stress accordingly to safeguard other entities from being affected. Sometime the previous year, I had donned a caliber of attire that seemed to have violated the school's dressing policy, and when the teacher on duty cautioned me for that, I failed to control my emotions by arguing back. That act got me suspended for one week and ordered to be accompanied by a guardian or parent on the day of reporting back. I was not only punished but deep within; I knew I had missed a lot on my main core in that school. If had controlled myself and accepted the mistake, I would have saved myself from the punishment and missing classes. As for the situation of Mr. John, a famous news anchor, his sense of self-guidance is of greater heights. There was a time he was found speeding by a traffic officer, and upon being cautioned, John responded more politely and pleaded for forgiveness. Luckily, he was charged a few coins, unlike the amount he would have been charged if he had responded violently and taken to court.
Fourthly, is the component Empathy. It describes the propensity to indefinitely understand what people are going through and considering their perspective. There was a moment my neighbor had just lost a loved one and witnessed how he was suffering not emotionally but also financially. He was so sentimental and impoverish, to the extent of unable to fend for the family; understandably, considering his age, we acknowledge he was going through a deplorable moment. Together with a close friend Felix who felt the same way for that person, we devised a contingency channel of helping in raising funds. We knocked from door to door of all residents, persuading them to at least contribute something eligible that would somehow elevate the well-being of my neighbor. The place was an even densely populated area, with a minimum figure of 500 and 600 people. The rumor had disseminated about the old man's situation, and that two young men were out and about knocking people's doors. Felix visited the southern area, while I went through the northern location. The initiative turned out positively, and the old man's loved one was laid to rest.
Fifthly, I would like to expound on Social Skills. It's a very impeccable component that illustrates the trend of managing emotions, with the motive of avoiding colossal disagreement and disputes from emanating. Late last year, I felt the need to sell my laptop since I barely used it, so I decided to look for a suitable buyer. When I came across one, the buyer checked it out and affirmed it was in good working condition. Unfortunately, after two days, the buyer came back and complained the laptop wasn't working. Since I was unable to control my emotions, we got into an argument, and the matter had to involve the security officers. He reported I had conned him and a warrant for my arrest was released. I was taken in and got locked up for three days at the Police station. The case went to trial, and I was fined twice the amount had received for the laptop, meaning I was to refund that buyer the amount he had paid, plus a similar amount as the inconvenience fee. Taking it to account I was still minor who was one year short to transit into an adult, the judge was somehow lenient and warned that, if in any case, I would commit another offense, the prosecution would charge me as an adult and subject to real federal sentencing. It was then it occurred to me, no one is above the law, and if I had responded in a more undisputed manner, it wouldn't have gotten to that level of getting locked up in a police cell, and ordered to pay fines that obstructed my parent's financial paradigm. As for my uncle Peter who owns an electronic shop, he encountered a similar confrontation with a client. He had sold a television set to a client, before handing over the device to the client, the particulars were verified, and the client was satisfied it was in order. Unlikely, after two days, the client reappeared; ranting by claiming the device was not working. Fortunately, Peter saved himself from the trouble I underwent by responding in a more mediating manner and calmed the situation by promising to replace the electronic device hence, maintaining a wise relationship with that client.
Conclusion
To conclude, honestly, I would be so appreciative, if my fellow students get to execute those components of Emotional Intelligence, because being volatile and not thinking straight, would only guarantee you the worse outcome of the whole. Like the case of where had conned the buyer, if I had thought it maturely and responded in a more civilized trend, the issue wouldn't have involved the long arm of the law. Similarly, I would like to enlighten on the importance of fear, it might be depicted as a form of weakness, but truly it is a weapon of credibility. Fear assists you to retreat and come up with a more engaging response. Unlike anger, it has always been perceived as a tool for showcasing your strength, but in some other cases, it's a catastrophic tool to inner personality. As, where I had argued with the teacher on duty, if I had controlled my anger by exhibiting fear, I would have thought it through before responding. If I had apologized for being wrong, I wouldn't have gotten suspended and later on punished. As opposed to fear is a weapon of strength, it can further contribute to unnecessary misfortunes. Like the fear I had in asking questions in class, I failed the mathematics exams not because I wasn't bright, but the reason being, fear to request for assistance. It's rather advisable always to be cautious on how we manage your emotions; mostly fear and anger.
