The leadership newsletter represent a profile of manger of Starbucks organization one of the biggest American and coffee company in the world. My choice for this organization was attracted by the organized manner by which the organization is carrying out the activities. I do believe that the smooth operation of the organization was as a result of the handwork of the leaders.
Content Brief Description of the Organization
The organization where I carried out this interview was Starbucks Corporation, which is an American based industry. According to the information that I got after a long interview with the manager, I was able to find some of the vital information about the organization as depicted below. The organization was founded in 1971 in Seattle Washington in the United States. Started as a coffee retail and now has grown to emerge one of the biggest coffee seller in the whole world. As at now, the company is having over thirty thousand branches in the whole world serving the world with the coffee and the related drinks. What attracted me to this company was the kind of leadership that is in the company that has made the company to move steadily to its top where it is as at now. There are indeed several problems that the company has been faced with some of them being the issues of discrimination of the employees in the organization among other issues, which were important. The leadership of this company is said to be one of the best in the world and the one that is able to amicably solve problems that is facing their employees and the customers. The company allows for diversity, one of the reasons that makes me to like the company. dealing with a diversified employees and customers in the company may sometimes be tiresome but, it gives a leader a good experience of dealing with various problems that he or she might face in the operation line. As a future leader, I am aware that challenges are part of life and it is only through challenges that you will be in a position to grow. If you can solve the challenges, which faces you then taking the business to the next level is your portion.
Leadership Style
the information that I found indicated that the company leadership style is attributed to the Schultz's leadership theory which encompasses the two leadership styles in one. The manager indicated that in Starbucks Company they are using both transactional and transformational leadership style. The manager that I interviewed indicated that he likes using the transformational leadership style in the company in that they want to impact their employees with these skills in order to transform the company. As a matter of fact, the company has achieved a lot when it comes to the transformational leadership style. For instance, the employees have been able to be transformed to work better in their environment and to help in achieving the goals of the company. The company through the manager has a well structure training trigram that all employees of the company do attend to ensure that they are equipped with skills that they can use in dealing with daily operations, which are inevitable. Every employee in Starbucks must carry out himself or herself as a leader since the name of the company is carried out there with them. The company is just a building but, they are the brand, they are the picture and the mirror of the company thus, making it important that they are equipped with enough skills.
Incident of Solving Problems
Problems are part of the organization and it takes a smart leader to turn the problems into opportunities, which can then add to the strengths of the organization. According to the manager, there are various problems that they had been faced with and they know that there are still more to encounter in their daily operation. One of the problem that he identified as the major one was the problem of discrimination among the employees and the conflict within the company. The manager asserts that those are the major issues that were facing the company and I concurred with him since they pose great drawbacks for the company. He pointed out at one point when the issue of discrimination based on color went viral in the organization. They were to come up with a strategy that would help in ensuring that the employees are taught some of the ways that they can use to peacefully exist as a diverse population and the problem yielded a lot.
Lesson Learnt From Being Able to Solve the Problem
According to the information given by the manager, solving the problem was an achievement sine there are several activities that could have taken place were the issue not solved at the moment. First, the reputation of the company in the public perception could have been affected, and secondly the company could have lost some customers because of the issues. Having all these in mind, it was in the best interest of the company to ensure that the problem is solved. As a leader I learnt that there is need to solve issues in a diplomatic manner.
Conclusion
My experience with Starbucks manager accord me opportunity and I gain some insight of how a good leaders should carry out himself or herself. The encounter as well enabled me to come up with the types of of leadership that are vital as well as the techniques of solving problems.
