Introduction

Male ethos is a fundamental notion and idea that men are dominant and superior in society as compared to their female counterparts. Unlike women, men have authority over every aspect of society (Crenshaw, 2018). The ideology of male superiority was significantly used to discriminate inferior races like the people of color who were considered to have a lover mindset like a female. Further, blacks were considered female race because they were viewed as lacking the intelligence like native white America hence less human that must be subjected under colonization, discrimination, and marginalization.

What is "Civilizing Impulse?" How is it connected to US policy in the world?

Civilizing impulse is the concept that as a specific population becomes more civilized in the society, its wealth and influence also increases providing a conducive market for the United States (Du Bois, 2017). Hence as nations expanded and became more civilized, the United States developed foreign policies justifying imperialism ascertaining that it provided liberty and prosperity the expanding nation viewing imperialism as promoting a mutual benefit to both expanding nations and United States.

What arguments were made against the United States undertaking such an imperialist role? Be Specific.

Imperialism was believed as a strategic approach to facilitating economic growth, military expansion, and fulfillment of civilizing the rest of the world (Du Bois, 2017). However, many individuals advocated against the United States of America engaging in imperialism ascertaining that America was a nation founded on the fundamental of liberty hence it will be against the country's doctrines and constitutional rights. Also, the strategy was majorly viewed as un-American and would only lead to an increase of non-American populace in the country.

What was the purpose of the Open Door Policy in China? What did it mean for US power in the world?

The Open Door Policy was a foreign policy developed by John Hay in 1899between China and European powers allocating equal access to Chinese trade. The policy ensured the protection of Chinese administrative and territorial integrity (Huang et al., 2016). The policy aimed at eliminating monopolization of the market by ant European powers like Germany, France, Spain and Portugal who had a great interest in the economic exploration of China. It enables China not to be subjected and divided into colonies while still gaining economic advantage.

Explain the Platt Amendment. What did it mean for the relationship between the US and Cuba?

Platt Amendment was a treaty between Cuba and the United States in 1901 that seek to protect Cuba's independence and international or foreign invasions. The treaty gave America the right to preserve and protect the order in Cuba and formulating a conducive strategy of withdrawing the remaining American military troops in Cuba after the Spanish-American war (Brenner, 2016). Despite being independent, the treaty limited Cuba's jurisdictional rights restricting it from signing any treaty with other nations without American approval. The Platt Amendment made Cuba a protectorate of U.S.
