I think these goals are optimistic and achievable to transform lives. I believe that through efforts of global citizens and with the help of charity organizations like Save the Children, the ONE Campaign, combined efforts towards solving global problems is needed. People can generate ideas on how to make the most out of economic and investment opportunities such as the mobile banking sector where citizens can set up mobile transfer sites to help save cash and provide services to the needy. I also concur that an increased investment towards agricultural, education, banking and the health sector can kick-start a successful era of improving lives. I think this can be achieved through improving infrastructures such as locations where digital money will be accessed by ordinary citizens, development of new vaccines, and modes of treatment to combat diseases as well as encouraging and making available enough money to farmers to increase food availability.

Furthermore, I believe global citizens should be ready to act on their compassion by volunteering their time to creating awareness, making donations for service delivery when tragedies occur such as tsunami, disease plagues, earthquakes, drought, and famine. Indeed, I believe that passionate citizens can also work together to form relevant movements that stand for change in caring for the poor and less educated to improve their lives.

The 2016 Annual Gates Foundation Letter

In this letter, Bill and Melinda Gates highlight about two superpowers. They focus on finding out which one would be more important to have if the two are presented to anyone. More time and more energy are the emphasis of the 2016 letter where a disparity always emerges between developed and developing countries. Time and energy, they noted, are significant to explaining poverty in families. Energy is critical to any economy. Bill and Melinda Gates estimate that over a billion people are without access to energy at home, in hospitals, schools, and factories to improve lives. Mostly in rural areas, 7 out of 10 people live in the dark which represent approximately over 300 million. Students read without electricity and use candles that hinder prosperity and have effects on their lives. The letter enumerates that access to energy means its easy to light up schools, run hospitals and power tractors that go a long way in making life easier. Individuals in the dark are usually deprived off opportunities and benefits that come with power and energy. Therefore, access to a clean and cheap source of energy are critical to everyones life as it should be affordable to poor families and clean so as not to emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The problem of climate change and global warming arise from the emission of gasses estimated at 36 billion tons.

Time poverty, the letter notes, is a key factor in explaining opportunity cost. That gender parity exists in the time factor cannot be overstated. Women spend more time in the kitchen, on household chores than in doing activities that are an income earning. Globally, it holds true that in every country about 4.5 hours of each day are spent by women on unpaid chores which is higher than men. Truly, assigning unpaid work to women many hours a day is unfair and harmful to everyone as it contributes to poverty and lack of capital. In developing countries, the gap in time spent on unpaid work is enormous.

My thoughts on the 2016 Annual Letter

I think that the poor are mostly affected by insufficient energy. Therefore, it is important for everyone especially college students who are expected to be tomorrows leaders to have the requisite education about the energy challenge. I believe that active involvement by young people on energy and climate issues is critical to any economy that provides clean and cheap energy to its citizens. A globally minded generation is needed as a valuable asset to provide global solutions towards climate change caused by energy. I think research on energy can help realize and discover sources of energy to complement the already existing government efforts that provide a clean and cheap energy.

I think that remarkable life goals are accomplished through doing paid work, getting involved to reduce the poverty index in women who spend time on unpaid chores. I concur with Bill Gates in his letter that work which has satisfaction and meaning leads to citizens being owners of capital than earners of wages. I believe that application of the Recognize, Reduce and Redistribute theory will help decrease poverty in those who focus on unpaid work. Unpaid work should take minimal energy and time and should be redistributed equally between men and women. Moreover, in developed countries paid work forms the largest basis for earners of wages than unpaid work.

In conclusion, from the letters I believe that a person should dedicate his/her energy and time to helping the poor, donating and volunteering towards projects that improve lives of others other than ones self. I believe it is critical to find passion in health, energy, and development that will drive hopefulness to the poor. Optimism is one of the most important factors that I think can help fuel the passion of time and energy that form the two superpowers to improving living standards.
