The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a personality inventory based on the psychological characteristics of individuals. This type of test is based on the idea that random variation in peoples behavior can be arranged in an orderly and consistent manner. The basic preferences of every individual are identified into four dichotomies described by the 16 distinctive personality types. From the 16 Myers-Briggs type indicator on personality types, my personality results were as follows: 88% extraverted, 56% intuitive, 12% feeling and 53% judging. Further notes on the analysis show that I have a strong preference of extraversion compared to introversion, moderately intuitive, a slight preference of feeling over thinking and finally, moderately rely on judgment rather than perception.
The EFNJ personality types are protagonists and naturally born leaders full of charisma involved in careers such as politicians, teachers and coaches. People of this personality type are good team players since they respect other peoples opinions even if it contradicts their own opinions. They are also very charismatic since they know how to captivate an audience with good communication skills and are reliable because they can always be counted on. They have a selfless nature by doing good in every society they are a part of. The protagonist personality types also have weaknesses such as being too selfless trying to keep their promises. They also have fluctuating self-esteem by trying to keep up with the public standard they set for themselves and ask for criticism because of their insecurities. Such type of people finds it hard to make tough decisions because of the fear of disappointing each party.
The results of the personality test were slightly correct except for the slight preference of feeling over judgment. I was surprised with the result because I would like to think I make judgments through logic and consistency and not based on special circumstances. As much as I am extraverted, I would not say I am only 12% introverted because I am not a full extrovert; I, however align with some of the dimensions on the scale since I make decision based on judgment after examining the facts in question rather than on perception. I am also an intuitive person because I like to interpret and get full information.
The MBTI is not a completely useful tool in determining individual personality types because of its poor validity since it does not really measure what it purposes to measure and is not also reliable because it gives different outcomes for the same person on different trials. The tests, however, provide a hint of a persons personality because some of the results are true while others may be exaggerated. The variations in the different outcomes of the test on different trials maybe due to the fact that the system offers different levels of answers depending on the strength of each. The MBTI test does not does not indicate strength of the abilities but instead indicates a preference of one of the characteristics. In addition to that, the MBTI test only provides a reported type of judgment of character since it indicates the probable overall type of personality type which is not helpful because people can judge their own character better.
The MBTI personality test is used by many companies throughout the world when administering new recruits into the organization every year. Most of these companies mainly rely on personality type tests to have healthier and more effective teams with stronger workforce. This is because the tests help them understand both the weakness and strengths of the employees and their rate of perception of information. The tests reveal a lot of helpful information regarding the employees approach to work, how they manage their time, their decision making skills especially in stressful situations and their problem solving skills. The MBTI helps in building stronger and stronger organizations by assembling the employees into teams depending on personality types to prevent clash. Since the different personalities of employees in an organization are a major challenge, the project managers, therefore, use MBTI tests to enhance communication within the company.
The tests also provide an effective way of motivating the employees. This is because it is advisable to motivate employees depending on the personality types because there are types that prefer logic and straightforward way of motivation while others may prefer frequent appreciation and positive feedback. Finally, understanding the personality types reduces conflict in the workplace by taking into account everyones strength and working on minimizing their weaknesses which leads o greater efficiency in the company. However, on a factual basis, the MBTI is not considered as the greatest instrument for measuring character types for employment purposes since it only indicates preferences instead of aptitude. The test results should, however, be confidential between the individual and the administration. To make the tests more reliable, the employees should be given an opportunity to take a best fit exercise with a trained administrator to get a detailed character analysis to match against the reported MBTI type.
