Part One: Identifying the Narrative
The text chosen for analysis has been obtained from the article What Being the Child of Immigrants Is Like by Bedi (2013). The narratives identified in the text are presented below;
I was babysitting this sixteen-year-old a few weeks ago her mom had asked me to stay with her for a few days and the kid invited some friends over. I had no problem with it, because better here than somewhere else, right? Of course, a few kids turned into a few more, which turned into a full-blown party as the news spread, and that's when I put my foot down and sent everyone home. The kid had a temper tantrum after everyone left. She yelled me and told me that I was "ruining her life," to which I replied "life's not fair," (I've always wanted to tell someone that), and she ran upstairs and refused to talk to me for the rest of the night. (Quoted from Bedi 2013, para 1).
Part Two:
How the Narrative was identified
A narrative is mainly a text which tells a story for the purpose of entertaining the audience. The story is one of personal experience. It tends to have a structure that features a beginning of a story, a middle, and an end. The identified narrative was identified following this characteristic which acted as a guideline. First, it was intended to entertain the audience so as to make them more interested in reading the article. Second, the beginning was where the author set the stage by stating that she was asked to babysit a sixteen-year-old. The middle is where the author states how things got out of control and she had sent everyone home. The end is where the sixteen-year-old failed to talk to her for the rest of the night.

How the Narrative Aided the Meaning Creation in the Text
This narrative played an important role in creating meaning in the text as it presents a comparison of what it is like growing up in a family of citizens and a family of immigrants. The author uses this narrative to show how different their behaviors are, hence triggering their conflict with the teenager. For the author, it was unacceptable to hold such a party without the consent of a parent. On the other hand, the teenager seemed to think otherwise which is why she threw tantrums when corrected and refused to talk for the rest of the night.
