Introduction
In any business enterprise, there are a particular set of objectives that it is supposed to achieve within a specified time frame. In most cases, it is profit from the ongoing activities in the business. Similarly, there exist some non-profit organizations that have particular objectives that they are supposed to achieve. The goals act as the main factors that motivate the management and the workers of the organization. In many of the non-profit organizations, some aspects are to be followed in the operation and running of the companies. Some of them depend on other people or organizations, to finance them, which calls for values such as accountability and honesty. This paper is an analysis of a non-profit organization using different management theories.
There are several theories of management. The first one is the scientific management theory. It is also known as the classic theory. Tylor Fredrick introduced it, and it utilizes the figures that the organization places and how the output can be improved by altering the factors of production. Its primary purpose is to improve efficiency and output. The approach works on four main principles, as explained below. First, the organization should ensure that they not only base their activity on simple application of common sense but instead consider more comprehensive approaches that are more advanced and data-oriented (Saeed et al., 2010). This principle calls for the managers to do extensive research on the policies before they advance them.
The second consideration is in the labor sector. The workers should be assigned roles that are in their areas of maximum understanding (Durkheim, 2014). An excellent illustration of this is the assigning of a person who is very good in mathematics a slot such as secretary. A person who is good at overlooking the work of the other people can be assigned that of the supervisor. The same principle should be applied to hiring. Only people with a particular skill set should be hired to complement the rest of the workforce in the company.
The third policy is monitoring the work that is being done closely to avoid any mistakes. In most cases, the hiring of new workers bring the need for training to ensure that they are well suited for their roles in the production process. Once the people are well equipped with all the necessary skills, they are then assigned the roles, and their performance monitored. Some motivation may be used to make them do their jobs better. There are different means of achieving a goal. Some means may be more effective that=n others. Apart from that, a method that may work in a particular company may not work in another. The workers should be advised to use the most efficient means.
The fourth principle is the allocation of work between the managers and workers. It allows the managers to lay a proper schedule for the workers. Besides, it allows the workers to perform their duties to the maximum. Apart from the Taylors Scientific Theory of management, others will be integrated into the discussion of a chosen organization.
The American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization that is mainly specialized in the relief of disasters that may hit different regions all around the world. Its services range from the donation of blood to feeding people who have been hit by hunger and drought and floods. It is a very intensive unit that is led by a board of management. The board is made up of people from different fields of specialization.
The first member of the board is Jennifer Bailey, who is the vice president of internet services in Apple. She is a specialist in internet and technology and as the capacity to giving solid advice on that sector. She is the chair of the board of development and governance committee. The Chair of Master card Ajay Banga is also a member of the committee. He is a member of the committee and was assigned with many roles all around the world. The third is the founder and CEO of The Rock Creek Group Afsaneh Beschloss. She is the vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and Endowment fund. There are several other members all who are chosen from different fields.
Basing on the above knowledge, Tylor theory is seen in action in the selection of the management committees. The people are sought depending on their area of expertise. Such a setting enables the organization to be diverse to cater to with the diverse opportunities and needs of people that the organization may need to fulfill. The board comes together to make decisions that affect the organization. With the different ideas, the problems are solved with less struggle since the people agree faster. This is one of the advantages of Diversity.
Action Plan
Basing on the knowledge above, the American Red Cross it is easy to describe and come up with strategies of improvement on some of their procedures. To begin with, it is essential to consider the scope that the organization operates. Its services are spread throughout the world, making it necessary for a very well developed leadership system. Even though the managers are well educated and have a lot of expertise in their different fields, it would be complex to run such a big organization without help. Due to t this, the Red Cross should appoint people from different regions.
The Red Cross should also send some of the committee members to different regions to oversee the activity and come up with ways to improve service delivery. An illustration of this is sending a member of the board of governors toe hunger-stricken zone to see how the members of the crew operate in the lowest zones. The visits should be random to ensure that they find the activity working in a standard way. In addition to that, society should offer some positions and appreciation for the members.
Another strategy that should be applied is the addition of more technical staff to improve the online portal. The scope of the organization is enormous, making it essential to make their services faster. The current portal allows volunteers to join the community and see the current services offered. It can be improved to increase the efficiency of the portal (Briones et al., 2011). The contact system is also sluggish, and it takes a lot of time to contact them. In the current situation, there are many improvements in technology. People have shifted to using mobile phones to access very many services, such as banking. Improvements of the online portal will make it more accessible to the people from any location. It would make it easier to report any cases of disaster or other tragedies that the society specializes in.
Conclusion
Organizations are all made to have different objectives depending on the reasons for founding them. Non-profit organization s are made to solve a particular problem that society is facing. While some are small and based in small locations, others are large and are found worldwide. An example is the American Red Cross, which was formed to help the people in times of disaster. It is managed by a board of directors who are experienced in different areas. They decide on the implementation of various programs that affect the community. The Taylors theory is seen in the specialization of the labor force and the need to include the new technology into the system. Some managers make decisions and allow the workers to implement them.
