Introduction
Nursing research has a huge impact on current as well as future professional research, therefore defining it as an important element of the educational process. Nursing research also assists the nurses to define the effective best practices and enhance the care of the patient. Through the nursing research, nurses in an online BSN to RN program gain knowledge on retrieving, reading, critique as well as applying nursing research. Research from peer-reviewed studies may rectify past errors, shape the way for the current protocols of treatment, and form new methodologies to enhance patient outcomes. Nursing research also assists nursing to respond to transformations in the government controlls, population of the patient, and healthcare environment. This paper discusses the importance of quantitative and qualitative research and how they can help to enhance nursing practice, sampling, and its importance as well as the importance of nursing research and how it can assist in making the nursing practice safer.
Quantitative research is a very important element for measuring and analyzing big volumes of data. Quantitative research if perfect for understanding the connection between an independent and a dependent variable. This research is used to test the premise in an experiment, to perform statistical analysis, and to conduct large scale research on the general population. The experimental design is a type of quantitative design, usually called true experimentation, use the scientific mechanisms to create a cause-effect connection among a category of variables in an analysis of research. Researchers try to manage for all variables but the manipulated variable (the independent variable). The impacts of the dependent variables on the independent variables are gathered then analyzed for a relationship. One important feature of quantitative research is a random assignment. This feature helps a researcher to randomly assign people to various groups of the study after the researcher has developed a correct sampling method. One of the primary reasons for this action is to get rid of the bias of people's differences in all groups of the study. In nursing, base breaking solutions usually follow a recent quantity for measurement and pattern outcomes (Grove, Gray & Faan 2019). Quantitative research is vital in nursing practice for it helps the nurses learn new things as well as developing better treatment for various diseases, thus improving the patient outcome.
Qualitative research is referred to as in-depth research using different techniques, to understand why people behave, react, feel, and in the way that they do. Samples seem to be tiny in focus groups and qualitative interviewing, since the purpose is to generate strategies, concepts, or, for example, the gratitude of activities that govern institutions or groups. One benefit of qualitative analysis is that it is not a must to start with the hypothesis that requires to be proved and it can be changed even when the research is ongoing, thus improving the data quality and the generated insights. Ethnographic research design is likely the most applicable and familiar type of qualitative method. In this type of research design, a researcher engages himself in the target environment of the participants to comprehend the themes, motivations, challenges, cultures as well as the goals that emerge (Mayer, 2015). Qualitative research comprises of many elements like observations, best practices , systems, processes as well as individual experiences that are grouped to create a useful resource. The knowledge gained from qualitative research lets nurses obtain a new perception about the care of a patient or validate an effective course of action.
Sampling is defined as a process used in the statistical analysis, where several observations that are predetermined are picked from a bigger population. This process assists a lot in research. It is one of the most vital elements which define the accuracy of a person's research outcomes. Probability sampling is one of the sampling policies used in quantitative research, which uses randomization to ensure that every factor of the population receives an equal chance to be section of the selected sample. Probability sampling I also knew as random sampling. There is also a non-probability sampling strategy used in quantitative research which does not depend on randomization. Non-probability sampling method relies more on the ability of the researcher to select elements for a sample. The results of sampling may be prejudiced and make it hard for all population elements to be part of the sample fairly. Non-probability sampling is also referred to as non-random sampling.
Research can assist to make the nursing practice safer since it provides evidence-based practice, which improves the quality of the nursing and make it efficient, safe, and effective. Research provides evidence to the nurses that guide them in their work thus helping them to critically think about the best care they can give their patients as well as the best treatment for the patients hence enhancing the patient's outcome. Research is essential when it comes to creating an evidence-based nursing practice since it gathers and evaluates data to come up with evidence of certain diseases and provide the best care and treatment of the patients (Tavakol & Sandars 2014). In other terms, through research, a lot of evidence is collected, such as the cause, symptoms, and treatment of a certain disease.
Conclusion
Research has helped a lot in the improvement of healthcare and treatment for patients. It has also helped in nursing practice by providing evidence-based nursing practice. Qualitative research and quantitative research are used to provide evidence to the nurses who help to improve patient care and treatment.
