Introduction
Over the years, I have been able serve my community and volunteer in many ways. I have been a volunteer with my local Boy Scout troop and my church's youth group. These experiences have taught me that I can help the less fortunate in my local community. Serving others has enabled me to have a positive impact on their lives. This has allowed me to see the realities of poverty and hunger that society often overlooks. Serving others is a way for me to feel that I have a greater purpose than myself. In the paper "My Volunteer Experience Essay", I would like to share my story.
As a Boy Scout, I've had the opportunity to serve my community and volunteer for many years. My troop adopts families in need every holiday year. These families receive gifts from us, so we donate our time to buy, deliver, and shop for them. Without organizations like ours, they wouldn't have much Christmas. It gives me great satisfaction to know that I made a difference in helping these families. It has allowed me to see the hardships that families are going through.
My school and church have allowed me to volunteer. Our church hosts the Harvesters Mobile Food Pantry once a month and distributes groceries to many families who are less fortunate. My youth group also organizes a weekly called "Mission KC", every year. We work on multiple projects in the local community and within the school district during this week. Some of these projects included painting middle schools, stocking local thrift shops, and helping at the City Union Mission. Mission KC provides vital assistance to local charities and is entirely voluntary. This week of volunteer work is intense and exhausting, but it's very rewarding and meaningful. Volunteering through National Honor Society is one of my favourite ways to help others. We sing Christmas carols for residents at Willow Heights Rest Home. It is so special to see the smiles on the faces of the elderly while we sing to them. I visit the rest home each year because they don't get many visitors.
Conclusion
These are just a few of the many experiences I have had with volunteerism. I've served many organizations at school, church, and with my Boy Scout troop. I have been able help families and small businesses in my community. I've seen the effects of my volunteer work on the lives of those who have received it, and I know how happy I am to have helped someone in need. Volunteerism is a form of altruism and benevolence that can lead to spiritual and personal growth. One hour of selfless service can make a difference in many lives. Serving others is a way for me to feel that I have a greater purpose than myself.
