Introduction
The European private security has undergone significant changes and maturity compared to the African, central and south American private security. In Europe, private security has matured through regulations and public and private cooperation where public services are transferred to private security companies to promote partnership (Button & Stiernstedt, 2018). The regulation of the private security in Europe using laws has significantly increased professionalism and trust through background tests and training regulation for certification (Button & Stiernstedt, 2018). On the other hand, in Africa, central and south America private security agencies are growing very first, but they are poorly regulated which poses a threat towards the misuse of power amongst the private security organizations (SERIES. 2014).
Unique Security Activities in Different Regions of the World
In Europe, the security environment uniqueness can be identified in the cooperation between the public and the private security and the existence of exchange programs that promote learning and professionalism (Button & Stiernstedt, 2018). In central and south America security is highly focused on citizen security due to high violence in the region. Most affluent people are forced to hire private securities which have increased the number of private security employment in the region (Muggah, 2017). In Africa, private security is focused on private installations such as malls and private property where most private security firms render their services (Higate & Utas, 2017).
International Issues that the Private Military Security Industry Encounters
Terrorism Activities and Violence
The private military security industry is increasingly experiencing the challenge of targeted terrorist activities and violence. In some countries, the private security employees are not armed, and those that are armed are not trained on conventional combat and military responses which poses a significant challenge in responding to terror and violent acts (Bures & Carrapico, 2018).
Global Agencies that Help Regulate the International Private Security Industry
Currently, there are no global agencies that regulate international private security industry, and the actors are regulated by the countries where they operate and where they are registered by government legislation. The European Union has very advanced private security industry regulations that seek to improve professionalism and accountability of the private security organizations.
The Impact Globalization on the Security Industry Worldwide
Globalization will have a significant role in the security industry as security organizations become globalized and more engaged in a national and global level (Davis, 2003). The United Nations today significantly outsources security from private organizations in global areas of interest which will have a significant impact on the future of private security professionals (Percy, 2012). Therefore, the globalization of the security industry calls for global based legislation and the creation of agencies that can create standards and regulations for global security activities and organizations. There is the need for the recognition of the important security role played by private security organizations as they complement public security agencies (Bures & Carrapico, 2018). Due to globalization, there is the need for greater cooperation between the public and private security agencies.
Skillset Requirements for the Security Professionals
Multicultural Competence
Future security professionals due to globalization and operations in different areas of the world should have the multicultural knowledge to enable them to disperse their activities. Poor multicultural competence will hinder security professionals from participating in international security opportunities such as response to disasters and safeguarding multinational organizations assets in different parts of the world (Bures & Carrapico, 2018).
Professionalism
Future security professionals should be trained on conventional security procedures and standards to ensure professionalism which will eliminate malpractices such as theft and other unethical practices that destroy public trust on security organizations (Bures & Carrapico, 2018). Security professionals should be aware of the standards and regulations that guide security practices in different parts of the world to enhance compliance with the established laws (George & Kimber, 2014). Professionalism also requires security officers to have a high level of accountability in their actions to meet the global security goals and standards.
