According to Ogden, Carroll & Flegal, (2014), obesity is a health condition that results when a person accumulates so much body fat that it has negative effects on his health. Skinner & Skelton, (2014), also submit that if a persons body fact is more than 20 percent of his bodyweight then the person is considered to be obese. Additionally, if a person has a Body Mass Index (BMI) of between 25 and 29.9 he is considered to be overweight, if person has a BMI of 30 between and 40 then he is considered to be obese and a person of BMI of 40 or more is considered to be severely obese. Obesity results due to overeating but the society continues to overheat despite the billions of dollars that the US government spends on public awareness on the causes of obesity and to urge people on healthy living.

The percentage of obesity has increased from 14 percent in the year 1980 to 31 percent in 2000. Such an increase is due to the increase in the intake of calories from 1542 per day in women in the year 1971 to 1877 per day in women in the year 2004. The intake of calories has also increased from 2450 in men per day in 1971 to 2618 per day in the year 2004. Due to the high, and the increasing, cases of obesity in the modern society, there is need to roll out educative strategies on the causes of obesity, benefits of healthy living and how to prevent obesity in the society.

Fryar, Carroll & Ogden, (2014), prove that people with FTO gene have a higher probability of becoming obese, research also submits this gene makes 1 in every 6 people to overeat. Additionally, people living sedentary lifestyles and the non-smokers are at a very high risk of being obese. The target audience for the obesity educative intervention will be people with the FTO gene, the no-smokers and the people living sedentary lifestyles to help in reducing the cases or the probability of becoming obese.

Strengths and Limitations of the Target Audience

One outstanding strength of the target audience is that they are highly receptive of education and information related to weight reduction and the need to reduce obesity in them. This is because they acknowledge the challenges that obesity has in their lives. This makes it easier to roll out educative lessons on the target audience with a high probability of the initiative becoming successful. The other strength is that in most cases, the target audience has the right information on weight reduction and only require limited support to engage in weight reduction programs. The weakness of the target audience is that they are, in most cases, in environments that have easy accessibility of foods and this increases their probability of eating and negating the steps that they take towards weight reduction.

Focused Learning Objectives

The objectives of this session on weight reduction are to sensitize the society on the negative impacts of obesity and ensure that the obese people take initiatives towards weight reduction. Additionally, the attendees of the teaching will gain dietary advice and lessons on the types of lifestyles that discourage obesity. Finally, the session will roll out programs that will help the obese people to reduce their weight and take practical measures towards weight reduction.

Moreover, there will be books available to the attendees on how to maintain healthy living where to get assistance for weight reduction, the session will end by giving the attendees 10 minutes to reflect on their benefits of the session and seek clarification on the teaching laid out.

Evaluation Criteria

In order to evaluate receptivity of the audience, there would be questions asked to the audience where the answers would be evaluated basing on their degree of correctness and how much the attendees have gained. Having a score of 75 percent or more correctness of the answers will be considered a success. The question session will also be analyzed with the type of questions the attendees asked put on focus; this will help in checking the attention that the attendees gave during presentation and their preparedness on putting the lessons learnt to practice.
