Introduction

This paper presents research on the use of Juven as compared to Pro-Stat in wound healing within twelve weeks among resident patients with pressure wound in a nursing home. In the facility there are some residents on Pro-Stat and others on Juven, both Pro-Stat and Juven promote wound healing. Juven is much more expensive than Pro-Stat, while they both do the same thing. The goal is to get the resident to have extra protein, vitamin C and zinc to promote wound healing. Why spend a lot of money on buying Juven when Pro-Stat is much cheaper and provide the same result (Boswell & Cannon, 2018). For the past two years or so, the facility has been spending money on these supplements some more costly than others. The facility is also always complaining that there are on a tight budget. Needs more money to hire more staff and provide more materials that are required for the unit. If we stop using Juven as a nutritional supplement due to high cost, would the facility save money is the question to be answered? No study proves that Juven is more effective than Pro-Stat. All research shows that they both have the same benefits except that Juven is more costly.

Instead of spending money on resources that are not needed. Money and resources can be allocated to hiring more staff for the facility. Working short of nursing staff has become usual in the facility. When we do not have enough staff on shift. It is very difficult to provide excellent and quality care to our patient by spending money wisely and effectively. More money will be available to hire more staff. The objective of the study is to gather data that can prove that Pro-Stat is as effective as juven. By using Pro-Stat only, it will decrease the amount of money the facility spent on nutritional supplement daily.

Change Model Overview

The ACE Star Model explains five main points that are involved in the transformation and application of knowledge. This model has been represented by a five-pointed star whose cycles starts at the top point which entails the discovery of knowledge. The new expertise discovered often represent the research process (Farra, Miller & Hodgson, 2015). The second point on the star represents the Evidence Summary. Production of sufficient evidence by the research facilitates the drawing of conclusions that helps to generate more knowledge for higher levels. The knowledge generated from the conclusion enables one to move to the next level (Translation) which is represented by the third star and in this stage is when the nursing guidelines, procedures, and protocols are developed. The fourth point of the star (Integration) is the stage in which the clinical guidelines and procedures are implemented. Additionally, this stage forms the change theory is used to create as well as sustain guideline implementation. The fifth point of the star (Evaluation) is when the quality assurance and performance improvement are evident to monitor the expected outcome.

As can be seen, this mode should be used by nurses to promote change. This model provides a comprehensive way of translating evidence into practice. Through this model, nurses regard the nature of knowledge as well as the knowledge on transformation which is very important in making appropriate decisions when providing care for the patient. Also, making the appropriate decision in clinical setting helps to ensure that safety measures and rights of a patient are protected which provides satisfactory results for the patients. This model also points out barriers as well as their solution for nurses when implementing evidence-based practice. Furthermore, the model promotes the uptake and utilization of new knowledge generated which further can be incorporated in nursing research to generate more knowledge and skills which generally promotes nursing services at the same time ensuring that only quality services are given to the patients and the communities.

The Scope of the EBP

The evidence-based practice occurs when the nurse makes a clinical decision basing on the available evidence that is updated, and his or her expertise in collaboration with the patient to provide nursing care that is optimum. In other words, the scope comprises three component which includes; clinical expertise, evidence, and patient preference (Boswell & Cannon, 2018). Clinical expertise encompasses the nurse's cumulated knowledge, experience, and skills which influences one decision-making process. Evidence entails any activity or information that has been proved to be real or valid while patient preference refers to the concerns, values, as well as expectation patient, brings in a clinical setting which must be regarded.

For the past two years or so, the health facility has been spending money on these supplements some more costly than others. The facility is also always complaining that there are on a tight budget. Needs more money to hire more staff and provide more materials that are needed for the unit. If we stop using Juven as a nutritional supplement due to high cost, would the facility save money is the question to be the answer

Spending more income on the supplement that is more costly deplete all the income available for the hiring of sufficient staffs, purchase other medical equipment and maintenance of the available resources this presets equal accessibility to healthcare services by the patients in the communities

A study to carried out to compare the price of Juven and Pro-Stat on the Amazon online platform for selling of goods and products indicated that one ounce of juven was being sold at $5.54 while Pro-Stat was being sold at $4.67 (Boswell & Cannon, 2018).

According to the research carried out by the University of Texas to determine the effectiveness of Pro-Stat showed that 96% of the seventy-one patients with pressure ulcers got healed while juven showed the effectiveness of 95%. Generally speaking the spending on expensive supplement in the health facility to be in a financial crisis which leads to poor delivery of healthcare services to the patients (Moore, Webster & Samuriwo, 2015). This also puts more stress on patients who have inadequate income to purchase Juven which is expensive. This leads to increased morbidities and mortalities.

Stakeholders

The stakeholders will comprise of a nurse, physician, pharmacists, and a nutritionist. The nurse will perform a role as a coordinator of the team; the physician will be in charge of diagnosing and providing treatment plans in collaboration with a nurse. The pharmacist will take ensure safety in prescription and handling of drugs and the nutritionist will help to in prescription of nutrition supplements for the patient.

Evidence

The type of evidence included the Literature search the Expert Opinion and the Financial Analysis which indicated that Pros Stat has the same capability to be used for wound treatment as juven. Pros Stat was also cheap compared to Juven and spending more income on expensive supplements causes depletion of income and financial crisis.

Recommendations for Change Based on Evidence

Policy makers in the health facilities enact laws that ensure that resources which are cost-effective are purchased to save on finances and prevent financial crises

Action Plan

The project will be implemented within a week after informing all the stakeholders and will be evaluated two months after the implementation. The results after evaluation will be displayed on tables and graphs. The desired outcome is to save some income for the health facility to be used in other projects. The plan will be implemented on a large scale through the involvement of the healthcare providers across the nation and around the globe through the distribution of the findings from the research for implementation of the recommended findings. These findings will be disseminated through online publication and print media such as magazine.

Conclusion

Pro-Stat should be used in place of juven to save on financial costs. The Juven plan ensures that more health care facilities have adequate resources through an equal distribution system. However, it is essential for hospitals to ensure that they have the man power and the resources to adapt to the new technique.
