Technology has also often been considered the main driver of firms' performance, specifically as a necessary form of entrepreneurship. Every enterprise, from caterers to health care professionals to retailers, are actively investing in the application of technological innovations as a way of helping them market their products and services, drive business and improve offers. The world is also in an age of industrial overhaul, where the tech companies such as Netflix, Yelp, and Lyft have literally been obliterating longtime giants such as Blockbuster, Zagat as well as traditional taxis. The situation may not much different with Singapore Island Country Club, as it is of paramount importance that the company adapts to new technological innovations and digitalization, or it will become obsolete.

Background of the Case Study

The Singapore Island Country Club is the very first Golf Club in the Farrer Park. After the arrival of Justice John T. Golney in 1887, with his clubs, he came eagerly anticipating to play golf but realized Singapore had no golf connections. Mr. R. N. Bland, another golf enthusiast, and Justice Goldney, then drew up the plans on the site to establish the club at the Ferre Park area by selecting the nine greens and tees where holes were to cut. The course had indeed a fair one, particularly with the potential hazards only being the sundry ditch and rails with the broken grounds. The club opened on 17th June 1891 by Sir Cecil Clementi, the Governor from then. Members of the Sporting Club (Singapore Turf Club's predecessor) were qualified to join the club, as it was in the racecourse grounds where the golfing activities were taking place (Singapore Sports Council, 2018).

With the increasing popularity of golf, the Golf Club's President, John M Sime, made the decision to look for another optional golfing site. The site at the MacRitchie Reservoir had been located and the work of clearing the area occupied by the jungle began in 1920. The 9 holes of the scheduled 18 hole-course became ready after 2 years. It gave the members a choice to play either in the racecourse or in the new course (MacRitchie). However, the Golf Club later made a permanent relocation from Race Road to the Bulkit Timah's MacRitchie site on 31st August 1924 (Singapore Sports Council, 2018).
