Barriers to trade forces firms to focus their efforts to become global competitors, or else they may end up losing their market share. Firms involved in the industry of assembling or manufacturing motorcycle have to contend with the rising competition. Harley Davidson is a large scale producer of motorcycles and has it be aware of the growing threat of competition from companies such as Honda and BMW (Dyer, Godfrey, Jensen & Bryce, 2016). It must be aware of the threat of substitute goods that have the ability to erode the market shares in place.
However, Harley has high demand that it cannot sustain. New firms are taking this advantage and assembling bikes that have almost the same capacity and efficiency. In addition, new companies are taking advantage of prices and selling their bikes at a lower price (Williamson, 2016).
Harleys Opportunities and Strategies to respond to Opportunities and Threats
HD should increase the reliability to its brand and focus on the American market. It is this perception that the company will improve and confirm reputation. The image of the brand does not allow it to remain on a real competitive advantage on heavyweight bikes market hence needs to improving and renewing its brand. The firm should adopt a market strategy which meets the wants and needs of their customers (O'Leary, 2014). To sustain its competitive strategy, HD should target undifferentiated clients who apply to every individual regardless of gender, age or lifestyle. Harley should offer a broad range of products and encourage more and more consumers to be part of their community by communicating the efficiency and ability of the brand.
Question 2
The Rationale for MacAfees Purchase
There have been controversies over the decision of Intel decision to purchase McAfee. However, the companys motivations for the acquisition are vigorous and straightforward (Muttik, 2016). First, the managers have decided to strengthen Intels security to the top. Secondly is to improve the network, policies, and practices in place (McAfee & Williams, 2013). Finally, they will be able to take security technologies directly to the customers via McAfee.
Acquisition of Macafee and its value to Intel and Its Shareholders
The acquisition of McAfee will add value to Intels shareholders since competition will be reduced and their market share, however, will be larger than when operating individually (McAfee, 2016). They will receive more revenue and from both firms and ideas can also be exchanged between the two parties.
