Introduction

Meetings can be challenging for the management in a working environment where employees are not keen on the procedures and proceedings under discussion. Paying attention during the meetings could be affected by several factors that increase or decrease the urge to follow on its proceedings. In the case of Ortho, one of the possible reasons why the employees were not paying attention is that the meetings are usually too long to follow and they get bored. They are used to holding long meetings and discussing things repeatedly and this could have led to the poor concentration observed. The other possibility is that the issues discussed in the meetings are never taken seriously and it is a repetition of the previous agendas. When nothing is exciting in a meeting, the employees are less likely to follow as compared to when the discussions are about new developments. The other reason is that the top management does not follow up on the outcomes and attendance of the meetings, and does not implement what is discussed in them. As a future or current manager, the solution to this scenario would be to ensure the meetings are attended by the top managers and that there is a follow up of the things discussed. In the environments where the top management supports meetings, employees pay attention and attend meetings regular (Iqbal, Anwar, & Haider, 2015). The management should also set strict rules on the attendance and participation of the meetings. For example, talking and receiving calls should not be allowed. The employees should have made to listen and understand everything about the upgrade and how it is likely to affect their work.

Patrick should research on the procedures that were followed last year during a similar meeting and how these procedures impacted the organization after that. For example, because the upgrade as the first one since the system was implemented, it is good to research on the time that it was implemented and how the implementation process affected the organizational performance. The other research is on the support that the top management offered on the projects in the previous year. The challenges that affected the implementation of the projects in the previous year is an indication of the possible challenges to be experienced this year. As a new manager, it is possible to request the other high-level managers to participate in the upgrade process to reduce the challenges. Patrick should also analyze the time it took to accomplish the projects and the response of the physicians and clients on the delays caused by the projects.

The physicians in the company are not team players and they are not cooperative. Team players work together towards a common goal and this increases the success rate of the company projects. There are many ways in which collaboration of the employees can lead to better performance of the companies. For example, if the physicians work as a team, they can assist each other during the downtime to serve the clients at a faster rate. The physicians are not team players because they did not listen to the plans attentively. According to Maruping & Magni (2015), the post-adoption phase of any technology determine sits success and the impacts it has on an organization. Therefore, it is advisable to encourage employees to collaborate in adopting the system and during its update. Team players would have listened and discussed the explanations given by Terry, the Information Technology director. The sidebar talks and frequent phone calls show the physicians are not team players.
