Once upon a time, not long ago, a man used to rely on hunting for food. The skills that one had in hunting wild animals determined whether they got to eat or whether they were going to go hungry. People were so much depended on hunting that they started to develop part of their culture around hunting. As time went by, hunting skills became a covetable possession that every man wanted to have. People would now hunt for adventure, sports, and even as a way of showing their strength and ability.

In the contemporary world, however, things have changed. People have moved on from the era of hunting and gathering to a more stable world that is characterized by modern civilizations, food security, and advanced technology. Moreover, the population of the world has greatly increased, making it harder for people to rely on the traditional means of survival. The current state of the world has given rise to the question, "Is hunting really necessary?" In my own opinion, I strongly agree that hunting is still necessary despite the fact that people don't need it as a means of living. For those who know the fun in hunting, hunting to them is more than going after and killing wild animals, it's a way of life. Moreover, hunting has got its own importance on the planet. First of all, hunting is eco-friendly since it helps to maintain balance in the food chain. Secondly, hunting can become an economic activity that can raise money which can be used for various beneficial programs. Hunting is therefore necessary in the world and hence the practice of hunting should be allowed to go on.

Throughout the world, nature has created an ecosystem that has made hunting a necessity for there to be a balance in the ecosystem (Brown, 797). Naturally, all living organisms fall within a food chain that runs from the producers to the tertiary consumers. The food chain has a pyramidal shape whereby the primary producers have the highest population in the ecosystem. The population of each level in the food chain reduces greatly as we ascend all the way to the tertiary consumers. If a certain level in the food chain fell in population, there would be an imbalance in the food chain that could lead to the ultimate destruction of the ecosystem. Human beings also contribute to the balance of the ecosystem by being part of the food chain. As human beings, we play a major role in the ecosystem by regulating the number of primary consumers through hunting (Brown, 800). By hunting, we are able to create a balance in the ecosystem and hence helping in conserving the same environment on which we depend on for survival. For instance, hunting deer leads to a smaller deer population. A small deer population means less competition for the natural resources and hence the deer are able to give birth to more deer, regenerating the population. Though the process of regulation of these wild animals is done by the natural predators, humans also play a major role in the regulation due to the fact that most predators today are naturally endangered and are hence protected in game sanctuaries. People who love hunting should, therefore, be left to carry on with their hunting activities as by doing so they play a big role in balancing the ecosystem (Brown, 802).

Secondly, hunting, if well regulated, can be a source of income (Naidoo et al., 629). Today, most hunting is done in private properties, game reserves, and national parks. The natural hunting grounds have greatly reduced due to increased human activities on earth. Modern hunting practices make it possible for the government to regulate hunting activities. As a result, the government can easily come up with policies that can commercialize hunting. Commercialization of hunting would generate revenues which can be used to fund wildlife conservation services (Naidoo et al., 630). Moreover, the funds can be used to create awareness and to protect endangered species. Currently, the government relies on tax payer's money to fund wildlife conservation efforts. Permitting hunting can reduce the burden on tax payer's money as the government can generate income through permits issued to hunters and taxes on private hunting grounds.

Moreover, hunters are known together to form hunting associations. For instance, we have organizations such as Safari Club International and many other hunting organizations in the United States. These organizations contribute positively to humanity course through ways such as raising funds to feed the hungry and raising money to conserve wildlife (Naidoo et al., 632). Such efforts help fund wildlife conservation efforts as well as contributing to beneficial programs to help poor people. Furthermore, the nutritional value of some wild animals is good for human well-being (Johannes et al., 91). The government can take advantage of the nutritional value of wild animals by working with hunters to sell wild meat to luxurious hotels and food industries in a regulated way. Such an effort would be greatly beneficial in terms of generating revenues for the government as well as the hunting associations.

Nevertheless, hunting has negative implications on the environment. One major setback of hunting is that hunting in the contemporary world is not in any way beneficial to nature. If anything, modern hunting harms the ecosystem rather than stabilizing it (Knezevic, 15). For instance, people do not always follow the natural process of nature while hunting. People mostly hunt down and kill the strong prey in the wild. The effect of these is that the weak species and animals end up surviving at the expense of the strong animals and species. On the contrary, only the weak and vulnerable animals end up falling in the hands of predators. Such turn of events ensures that the natural process is followed and that the fittest survive (Knezevic 17). Moreover, human beings are intelligent beings. As a result, humans are able to use means that lead to overhunting of wild animals. For instance, hunters are able to lure wild animals into traps using food. Moreover, they are able to use advanced weapons such as guns to kill. Rather than balancing the ecosystem, the advanced techniques used by man to hunt have resulted into the endangering of more species rather than in balancing the ecosystem. Moreover, hunting is mostly done on private lands. In such private lands, owners have been known to introduce new animal species from other locations in the world. Once the introduced species find a way out of the private lands, they pose a danger to the ecosystem which does not have a niche for them (Knezevic, 18).

Nonetheless, the setbacks of hunting are man-made and can easily be regulated to allow for a safe and eco-friendly hunting. Given the benefits of hunting, that is, the major role that hunting plays in balancing the ecosystem and the economic potential of hunting, hunting is still necessary in the contemporary world. Hunters should, therefore, be permitted to carry on with their activities.
