Introduction
It is not very common to hear whenever sports are mentioned to hear women dominating as the subject matters. Many regular sports practices of women are deficient in most of the countries that we look up to as the whole world. In most of the countries; there are higher cases of men being reported as having engaged in sports than women. The extent to which these differences differed by gender varies considerably across countries. Regarding this, this paper purposes of exploring on some of the real-time illustrations, example and different instances where there is, or there has been identifiable sports inequality among the women.
According to the recent report, conducted by the women in sport, it has been found out that 40% of the women have been experiencing the gender discrimination in the industry of sports. Furthermore, other more research on workplace culture in sports has continuously unveiled the level to which woman with the career in sports faces the prejudices. A survey that was conducted amongst 1,152 women between September 2017 and March 2018 involved all the women and men participate in the study ("Research Reports"). The 38% of the women stated that they had experienced gender discrimination in the working place compared to a fifth of the men. Additionally, more than 40% of the women believed that their gender would have a significant impact in the way in which they are valued at the workplace, 30 % of the other hand had experienced inappropriate behaviour from people of the opposite sex as compared to a tenth of the men.
In the year 2015, thousands of sports fans flocked into Vancouver's Bc stadium to have a live experience on the women football that involved the Japanese and the united states women final world cup. The study shows that even though despite the accomplishment by the women in attaining to that level of the national importance in the world cup, these illustrious women players still faced substantial inequality since they were women. Some of the sports inequality that our women still face today is one; there still an issue with the wage gap. In as much thus national team might have won the world cup, yet the 2015 competitors of all the teams involving women were all paid 4o times less than their male counterparts in the year 2014. As it was reported, FIFA would award the united states women's soccer team with total $2 million prizes for their world cup as compared to the final 16 ends national teams that played in the previous year world cup which had taken home a whopping of $10 million o the average. Furthermore, Germany of the men's winning team tournament earned a total of $ 35 million.
The second day on how the sports inequality in women is evident based on the 2015 women world cup is that it was observed that women were expected to play under different conditions. It was surprising how for the first time FIFA desired that the women's world cup would be played on artificial turf. While it may seem like a small subject of discussion, the women players argued that playing on artificial turf was not only inadequate but also as a team; they experienced several injuries and burns. This is the reason why a good number of players filed a suit, with the claim that the decision was born from the gender discrimination because unlike women, the men's tournament players would not have been forced to play in the very artificial turf.
The third way in which sports inequality among women is observable is that they are valuable caregivers (Spaai 405). In consideration of the England's women team, perhaps the athlete's team should have received accolades and congratulatory notes and celebrated for their exceptional skills. Instead, the ever-pervasive stereotypes on gender, major organisations had to remind the people that as much as they had won and had done a good job, there is a real place they belong- their families back at home. This evident by the tweet sent from the England's Football association's account: "our lionesses go back to being mothers, partners and daughters today, but they have taken on another title- the heroes.
The other last sports inequality observable among women is that they have been sexualised and objectified. There are many websites like the athletic build men's fitness, the richest and the others have come up with the entire list if the devoted to ranking the comparative sexiness of the women athletes overall. The media coverage of the women athlete is always revolving around their bodies and not their skills. Thus, it has been very difficult for the public to see the female athletes as just the athletes, rather than the objects of sex to be ogled (Toffoletti 462).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is evident that there still exists inequality of sports among the women. When we think that it should be reducing, that is when it seems like it is taking the toll. There is a great need for the authorities involved to up their game in reducing and curbing with the inequality issues.
