Emily Dickson was a renowned American poet who incorporated various stylistic devices in her poetry. Dubbed as the most prolific poet, Emily composed numerous poetry that has frequently been used in English literature to impart students with the adequate knowledge required to complete the course. Emily used various stylistics devices such metaphor, symbolism and imagery to catch the attention of the readers as well as influence their interest in the key message being communicated. This paper seeks to discuss three types of Emily Dicksons poetry as well as identify the various stylistics devices used. Additionally, this paper will also discuss as well as identify an American poet from the 20th century and subsequently compared it with Emily Dicksons work.

The identified Emily Dickson poetry includes, Hope is a thing with a feather, nature is what we see" and"a bird comes down the walk. In the poem by Emily, hope is a thing with a feather" she uses various stylistic devices such idioms and imagery to pass her messages to the masses. In this poem, the main theme identified is hope; Emily offers words of encouragement to people who have lost faith in their work or life. She composes the poem using encouraging words such as hope is a thing with features.' On the stylistics devices, she applies metaphors to pass the message. For instance, in her first stanza of the poem "Hope is a thing with the feature," she uses the metaphor to pass the message home. A metaphor refers to the comparison of two items in poetry. However, her poem shows no specific rhythm, and because of these elements, it becomes complex to identify a theme successfully. Additionally, she uses specific writing patterns and a common meter which involve alternation of the eight syllables followed by next six syllables. Additionally, in her quest to promote her work she fails to apply similes in this specific poem thus making it very complex to analyze.

In the poem Nature is what we see, the poet uses various stylistics devices to compose her message. She uses imagery in her work. For instance, in the first stanza, she says, Nature is what we see as a result developing an image in the mind of the reader concerning the surrounding. Additionally, the poet uses punctuation marks and coma to express the mood of the poem thereby attracting the attention of the readers. Emily uses upper case in some words; this is because the primary objective is to enable the reader to put more emphasis on the words to understanding the deeper meaning of the poem. Emily applied nature as a tool of symbolism, metaphor, and imagery to express her emotion in which the students or the readers can relate to and get a deep understanding of her message. The use of the imagery, symbolism, and metaphor assist in understanding the theme of the poem as well as the message communicated.

In the poem by Emily, a bird comes down the walk the message being communicated revolves around the various the problems we pass through. In this poem, Emily used different stylistics devices such imagery, symbolism and metaphor to pass her message. For instance a bird come down in being stanza shows the application of imagery tool. The poet created an image in the mind of the readers to communicate the message home. The rhythm of the first stanza is ABCD. Additionally, it explains to the readers how the bird tears the worms in two before eating it. The theme of nature can be identified in this poem because the author revolves around nature. For instance, the poem watches as A bird came down the walk. Additionally, the poet chose to focus on nature as the main study area. Emily uses iambic trimeter with irregularly four syllable lines that follow a loose ABCD rhythm theme and breaks the meter with long dashes. The use of the stylistic devices plays a significant role in providing an in-depth understanding of the theme in the poem. Additionally, the use of the rhythm and meters contributed to the complex nature of the theme that the poet attempted to explain to the readers. Emily Dickson played an integral role in the success of poetry in English literature.

Jane Hirshfield as the identified American female poet of the 20th century who works has inspired most reader of poetry. Jane chose a different approach during her poetry composition compared to Emily whose was majorly confined on the theme of nature as the frequently discussed point. Jane wrote seven poems that have played a significant role in the success of the English literature study. In her poem Changing Everything, Jane Chose the same approached used by Emily Dickson. For instance, most of the theme depicted by the poems shows the theme of nature as the frequently discussed point. Jane used symbolism, imagery, and metaphor in her poem to pass her message. For instance in her poem in the first stanza, I was walking again in the woods show the use of imagery tool to explain to the reader the situation. Jane and Emily's poems reveal similarities in approach in their works.

Even though Jane poetry themes were of love and nature Emily chose the theme of nature throughout her entire work. Emily case reveals to the readers that she loved to travel because most of her work was concentrated on nature. Janes thematic interest consisted of nature and love through which she composed her poem. Additionally in her poem Changing Everything Jane used a combination of various stylistic devices to pass her message home. Janes primary concern was to impart the student and readers with additional knowledge through entertainment and brainstorming of her poetry. However, it is significant to note that Miss Jane and Emily used the same approach in the composition of their poem even though Emily majorly focused on the theme of nature throughout her work. Poetry imparts learners with the necessary skills required to interpret the poems successfully. Emily and Jane used various stylistic devices to share and as well as reveal their emotion through different themes. Jane used nature and love themes in most of her poems as compared to Emily.
