Sponsorship and Access

In this part, Brandt describes how accessing sponsor is essential in developing skills needed for literacy. She says that there is a substantive and explicit link between literacy knowledge and systems of access and opportunity. In pure dialect, she argues that access to suitable learning materials and the environment is vital for the positive growth of literacy. Brandt gives an example of a young man who had a wealthy father and was capable of accessing all learning materials such as computers as early as six years old and a poor lady who was unable to get such services. In the end, the boy from a wealthy family gets employed in a better company than the woman. Therefore, it is important to note that access to these sponsors is very fundamental for proper growth.

Sponsorship and the rise of Literacy Standard

As earlier defined by Brandt, sponsorship is the ability to provide assistance through reading materials, finance, and other forms of aids that can facilitate literacy. She says that there is a rise in literacy standard when these elements are present. For example, the emergence of several higher learning institutions has given most people an opportunity to access required materials for skills and development. It is in contrast as compared to early days when such resources were unavailable. Specifically, institutional sponsorship has increased rate of literacy. The spectacle is what enables todays scholarship looks so advanced.

Sponsorship and Appropriation in Literacy Learning

In this section, Brandt acknowledges the end results of sponsorship in literacy learning. In a simple understanding, it has led to diversification where everybody has attained several skills and can work in every sector. An example drawn in this case is where clerical work was an imperative job opportunity for only women in the 20th century. It was believed that men had no hospitality skills and could not be employed in sectors that required reception skills. This also applied to women as certain jobs did not call for their attention. However, through literacy learning, which has been brought by the sponsorship of literacy, no particular job belongs to a specific gender.

Discussion

Brandts central point is that without the sponsors (resources for education), literacy skills are hard to achieve. Brandts examples clearly illustrate this point of view. For instance, there is an example she gave out about a young man from a rich family and a girl from a low-income family. Despite the fact they are born in the same year and the same town, the man had all sponsors (money, connections, computers,). In the end, he works with Microsoft Corporation and has a lot of clients. On the other hand, the lady lacked all these opportunities and did not do well after school.

In conclusion, the central takeaway from this article is that those who have the resources to education will attain necessary skills and even achieve their goals in life. That it is, it is important to note that without access to schools, effective learning materials, comfortable learning environment it may be hard to get individual literacy skills.
