However, FedEx and UPS seem to be one of the four main competitors in this industry.
Both FedEx and UPS have similar website template where the webpage begins with listing the location of their service provider in the continents. There is also no information about the company and there are no graphics on the homepage. Navigation of the two websites is easy because the first click introduces the customer to the country of their choice. Unlike FedEx, UPS website has a feedback section where the customer may write to the company directly. FedEx website is more detailed and its navigation is, however, more convenient and easy to a customer who may have no idea of the continent a given country is located in. UPS website lists the continents where the customer has to click on the continent to select the country of their choice. Moreover, FedEx has a large operation market as compared to UPS. This is as a result of a network of multiple versus single shipping factor. The UPS model is regarded as spoke and hub and everything is interconnected . In FedEx, the service levels are split into numerous networks under the company's umbrella. This network includes air and grounds network. UPS and FedEx are similar in service market which includes guaranteeing the customer next day delivery, and cheap ground delivery. FedEx offers Saturday delivery thus making it more convenient as compared to UPS.
Technology has played a key role in expanding UPS . However, In making shipping easier for the customers, UPS has developed an application of package tracking and online shipping. It has also formed some partnership with some software vendors which includes, commerce solution providers, logistic software suppliers, and Tan data. This helps integrate logistics and shipping capabilities into international commerce software. However, the company also uses a global electronic communication network known as UPSnet .It processes the pipeline of international delivery and packaging processing. FedEx introduced Fed Ex software or FedEx Ship manager server which ensures that the shipment is more convenient and easy and also guarantees the customer of security.
Apart from shipping FedEx, does packaging where they also sell boxes which are custom branded. It also offers a mix of information, documentation management and offers supply chain solution. Other services offered by FedEx are trade electronic commerce solution and trade facilitation. UPS offers international trade services that include customs logistic consultation and customs brokerage. The company offers brokerage facilities which include expert brokers that handle all the complexities on accurate duties and taxes rating. They ensure a timely delivery and ensures compliance through clearance of 97 % shipments same day. The company also offers a warehousing service that includes auditing, packing, and unpacking, loading and inventory control.
