Introduction

Basketball is one of the world's most popular sport and also arguably one of the most viewed game in the world. Basketball ball is a team sport having five players from each side whereby they are trying to score points against each other under organized rules by throwing the ball to the basket which has been lifted 10 feet high. The game was invented by a Canadian born physical educator James Naismith in December 1891 at the YMCA training school which is in Springfield, Massachusetts (Pesce 232). James Naismith was challenged with keeping the students taking the physical education class activities through the winter season by giving vigorous and challenging activities that could be done indoors. The Young Men's Christian Association created and developed the game's rules which were later adapted by schools and settlement houses. The game continued to flourish and became more prominent and even more popular specifically in urban areas whereby several games were sponsored and promoted by schools, churches, companies, and also social clubs.

The given size of the court, the height of the basket that has been lifted, and the duration of the game to last vary diversely concerning the age, skills, and the size of the players. For most individuals, playing basketball can be fun and also a valid form of exercise, and it is an enjoyable form of lifestyle (Krause and Craig 79). Learning basketball can increase the chances of one living a happy life since it comes about with a variety of essentials since the game assists one to develop skills that can be relatable and applied in various aspects of life. Most individuals tend to believe that the primary objective of sports is to teach one on how to win games and to be physically active. Basketball has proven to have numerous effects and a far more significant impact on an individual's life; these effects can be reflected from an individual's personal, social, and even physical life.

Importance of Basketball

Basketball has numerous advantages to the personal life of an individual that can lead to one's happiness. One of the various benefits that basketball has on the life of a player is that it is an effective method of relieving stress. Basketball ball is a unique game since one does not need all the ten players to play the game, one can invite a few friends to come over to play, one can look for a one on one opponent, and also one can still have fun by playing on their own. The competition that has been set within the game acts as a distraction from one's daily stressful life (Herzog). Other games may also be relaxing, but with basketball, it does not require one to be the top athlete or has to collect a large of players for the game to take place. One can be taking shots by themselves at school, backyard, and even at a local court, which gives someone something constructive to do rather than thinking of the hectic life (Pesce 232).

Basketball is essential in developing the concentration and self-discipline of an individual, and it should be known that self-discipline act as a bridge between an individual's goals and their accomplishment. Nothing makes a person happier than accomplishing their goals; henceforth basketball assists one to be disciplined in various aspects of life like studying, working and relating, self- discipline is crucial since it gives no room for one to have excuses for noting doing something that is required of them to do.

Learning basketball also has a significant impact on the social life of an individual, which is vital since one will know how to relate with others effectively. The aspect of having five plays in each team competing teaches us on how challenging and competing life can be, also having various people playing various positions since they have a different level of skills is an important life lesson where one has to understand that were are all different. Each player must understand their role in the game and coordination and teamwork of the team should be the primary objective towards winning (Koh, Koon, Xin, and Yizhe 523). In life, this is an essential lesson that can lead one to live a happy life since one knows what their role in society, and also they are a team player. Being a team player enables one to be trusted and depended upon whenever there is a situation that requires urgency appears, and the position fits you quite well. Basketball is considerably a team sport that requires the effort of each member defining their role and participating to win the game whereby they have to apply all the skills given with their team members. In society, the game of basketball teaches people to be willing to cooperate, contribute, and to share what we have. Having the three variables mentioned above within one's life leads to a happy life.

On the physical benefits of basketball, the game highly develops the physical fitness of an individual. Basketball is well known to be a game which is moving fast and involves dribbling, passing, defending, rebounding, and shooting. Through this variety of the unique nature of the game, basketball enhances the speed, eye-coordination and also increases the cardiovascular endurance which other sports like softball and golf might not do. Moving fast across the court whereby the player runs back and forth enhances the fitness on the lower body part. Defending, dribbling, passing, and shooting improve upper-body fitness (Herzog 127). Also, playing basketball is an effective method of controlling one's weight and even burning out the calories that can endanger the health of an individual. Playing basketball offers the player a full body exercise which can assist in improving useful lean muscles. Playing excellent defensive in basketball games helps one to develop their traps, lower back, deltoids, the neck, and even the core muscles. Strong legs are essential in shooting and running while various movements such as dribbling and shooting are necessary for making one's arms, hand muscles and the wrist flexors to be reliable.

Learning basketball is essential towards enhancing the mental cognition and the health of an individual. Players within the court are required to be continually thinking, and also they should be aware of the next move that they are about to make, how to cope and even react when the team is under pressure, and also knowing where the rest of players have positioned themselves. Basketball also enhances mental improvement since by playing the game, one improves their motor skills and coordination, reduces stress, boosts the image of an individual, and also improves their habit of sleeping (DiFiori et al. 2055)

Various researches have been conducted, and it has been found that the results of physical fitness vary from one person to another, but there are socio-emotional health benefits that are attracted when one is participating in a team (Fiorilli et al. 3681). Planned training sessions and also participating in various basketball games enables one to be committed and also to be motivated for course. Individuals who are playing basketball tend to socialize with different individuals from different backgrounds hence establishing a bond; social individuals are less likely expected to face depression. Having a teammate that one can trust makes it easy for an individual to share their problems unlike other games such as soccer, baseball and also softball players tend to maintain a significant distance for an extended period.

Over the years, basketball game has undergone a lot of changes, and also the rules within the game have been implemented to suit the players. Basketball is not only a fun game, but it is a game that can be used, but an individual for the right purpose of shaping their life since the game does not only offer life skills lessons, but it also assists in developing the health of the player. The advantage that basketball has over some games is that it is not necessary to be in a particular team for you to enjoy the game, various games can be played in basketball by an individual or even by just two people.

The other added advantage of basketball is love, chemistry, and teamwork. One has to love the game so that they can improve on their skills; otherwise, one will remain weak or average in the game unless the player was born with talent. Chemistry is required within basketball so that the team can win games and also play good defense against the opposition team. Teamwork combines all the given aspects to achieve the desired objective as the old saying goes teamwork makes dream works. It is with no doubt that learning basketball is an essential step towards achieving a better life physically, mentally, socially, and also individual wise.
