Quarter 1
During the first three months of the year, I believe I will still be new to the operations of the workplace. As such, I will prioritize getting to know my colleagues and their expectations so that I can interact with them easily. Good interpersonal relations are also important because they will help me to thrive in team environments. It will also reduce the probability of engaging in workplace conflicts. Additionally, by implementing proper office correspondence, I will be able to promote my positive personal characteristics which also act as my strengths. Some of these positive qualities include honesty, flexibility, easy-going, insightful, organized, self-reliant, and proactive.
Similarly, it will help me to overcome my weak interpersonal skills. Some of the exact strategies I will implement to help me to improve my workplace interactions include: [1] Listening effectively to colleagues. This involves being empathetic and allowing a person to state their position without interruptions [2] Understanding my audience and the required protocol (communication protocols differ between colleagues, subordinates, and superiors). [3] Confirm that the message sent is the message received since people have different ways of interpreting information. [4] Being brief and to the point. By minimizing unnecessary communications, I will also enhance my productivity since I will allocate more time to work and not to communications. Furthermore, improving my workplace communication skills will make it easier for me to adapt to the organization's culture (Gee and Hanwell, 2014).
Quarter 2
During the second quarter of the year, I will focus on using my strengths to help in my career advancement. One of my strength is having strong business contacts. While working, I will try to increase the number of people I can easily identify with, in relevant business circles. I will build my business contacts through increased interactions with potential and existing clients, coworkers, and individuals in professional circles. The process of increasing the number of business contacts will also allow me to capitalize on the opportunity to gain more experience. Coming into contact with people in the business field will provide me with additional information on how businesses operate.
Further, increasing my business contacts will provide me with a degree of insurance against employment competition. There may be other people who might be employed in future. These individuals will compete with me for the same role. By having the right connections, I will make myself invaluable since the company will need me to use my contacts to promote its strategic goals. Furthermore, extensive social and work-related links provide me with the chance to expand the number of jobs available to me.
Quarter 3
At the start of the third quarter of the year, I believe I will have been able to complete my quarter one and quarter two targets which mainly touch on workplace communication and increasing business contacts. Thus, in the third quarter, I will have reduced my work inexperience to some extent through the usual day to day operations. On top of that, I will be able to assess and strategize on the various opportunities available for personal development. This involves evaluating whether my current career is in line with my desired goals or if I need to make changes.
Quarter 4
A limited academic experience is likely to stifle my career progress. However, as the year approaches an end, I will have settled into my job. By placing educational goals last, I will minimize the number of potential challenges that may arise from my classroom schedule. I believe that by the end of the year I will have understood the operations of my workplace well enough to develop a flexible work-study timetable. First, I will seek to obtain a certification in accounting before pursuing postgraduate education in the future. Having accounting certifications such as CPA (certified public accountant) will allow me to advance my career. Accounting certifications also expand the scope of work that I can do aside from providing me with job security. Many people pursue business-related courses, but fewer go on to obtain accounting certifications (Cheryl and Marie, 2013).
Furthermore, by increasing the amount of educational experience I have, I will maximize my educational strengths. At the moment I am undertaking a Business Administration course. CPA certification will allow me to improve my academic expertise in the field of business. It will also provide me with job satisfaction. It is important for me to be well versed in the various aspects of a companys operations so that I can handle any duty handed down to me without difficulty.
