Introduction

Human capital is one of the determinants of the good performance of a company. Well trained employees have the capacity to perform their duties effectively. However, some of the organizations do not realize the importance of training and development in enhancing employee effectiveness. Further, the effort of training workers is directly related to the quality of human resources in a business. The current research will be examining the subject of training and development on employee efficiency with a special reference to the TAQA ATRUSH BV Company in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

There is no research on training and development as it happens in the company or how it impacts the business or its workers. Further, there are no studies that focus on energy companies when examining the subject of training and development in organizations. Those investigating on the subject focus on its impact on employee performance, productivity and behavior (Barzegar & Shahroz, 2011; McDowall & Saunders, 2010; Pallavi & Kulkarni, 2013). Therefore, there is a gap in the knowledge, literature, and research regarding the topic of training and development and its impact of employee effectiveness in energy companies. Therefore, the current research will be investigating the impact of training and development on employee efficiency: a case study of the TAQA ATRUSH BV Company.

Research Question

The primary research question to be answered by the research is:

How does training and development impact on employee efficiency in a way that enhances performance?

The Purpose of the Study

The aim of the research is to examine the impact of training and development on employee efficiency in a selected organization, the TAQA ATRUSH BV Company in KRI.

The Significance of the Study

Generally, the research will be beneficial to all organizations. They can use training and development to enhance employee effectiveness. It will be beneficial to the TAQA Company specifically since the recommendations will be focused on TAQA, its management, and employees. The study will also benefit future researcher who would want to examine the same topic. It will be a background research that they can use to expound on the findings through further research.

Literature Review

Overview

The section will discuss the current literature on the topic of investigation. The subtopics that will be covered include theoretical framework, training, and development in organizations, approaches to training and development, the relationship between training and development as well as employee effectiveness. Some of the studies that are relevant to the subject of investigation include Singh and Mohanty (2012), Elnaga and Imran, (2013) and Saleem, Shahid and Naseem (2011). These studies cover the aspects of training and development, employee behavior, employee performance, training practices in organizations and employee productivity.

Hypothesis Formulation

The hypothesis that will guide the research is as follows

H0: Training and development does not impact on employee effectiveness

H1: Training and development has an impact on employee effectiveness

Methodology

Subjects of Study

The subject for the study will entail employees in TAQA ATRUSH BV Company in KRI. All levels of management will be included in the research. A representative sample will be selected from the target population. In that case, a simple random sampling will be used to select the participants to the study. The researcher targets about 50 employees in the company. Therefore, from the sample, 7 will be managers, 13 will be supervisors and 30 will be lower level employees.

Measurement

Measurement will be performed to conceptualize in the independent variable of employee effectiveness using indicators such as the quality of work, individual performance, organization performance, and employee conduct.

The depended variable of training and development in the organization will be measured by indicators such as Organization conducting on the job training in the workplace, employees participating in the training sessions and types of training, and development courses offered by the company to its employees.

Data Collection Method

The study will use a questionnaire to collect data from the participants. The questionnaire will have closed-ended questions to allow uniformity in answering of the questions and easy analysis of the collected data.

Data Analysis

The gathered data will be analyzed using quantitative techniques such as descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The raw data will be entered into a computer, coded and regression analysis run using SPSS.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the study will be examining the impact of training and development on employee efficiency in TAQA ATRUSH BV Company in KRI. It is anticipated that training and development in the business related to employee effectiveness. The improved performance of the staff, organization and better quality of work will reveal employee effectiveness after training and development.
